Quick question just took delivery of a 2011 triple black ,the tool kit pack under the seat only has oil filler cap tool thingy in it is this the norm..... It's a 1200gs not an adventure
No there should be a couple of other bits in the pouch as well

Not really worth bothering with though to be honest couple of torx Allen keys a reversible screwdriver, worth putting your own bits together really.

The original tool kit only has a very limited range of tools. Those that are in it are rubbish anyway, you are much better off putting your own kit together.

Picked up a 2011 Triple Black a few weeks ago and sitting here drawing up a list of tools to replace the woeful kit supplied. I can only think they expect riders to carry a credit card and breakdown membership when they go off round the world.
There's also not much space that I can find to store them

Keep the oil filler key. Buy yourself a set of torx keys, 90 degree tyre valve adaptor and breakdown recovery card.

I've got an additional fusebox fitted where the toolkit goes, and have a Twalcom tool box inside the pannier frame for a selection of tools, puncture kit and compressor. Just spend a while going around the bike to see what you would need. Most used item is a roll of gorilla tape followed by a multitool bought from Lidl's for around a fiver.
Like the man said....base it on that......but dont buy it.......£130.....for that

May I ask where you got it for £70?
Pop down to Halfords and get some of their Professional tools (lifetime guarentee) and get a Kreiga tool roll. I'll bet you can make that kit up for a lot less than £70

My local Halfords had tool sets at under 1/2 price. Whatever some people say about their stock, the professional tools are top class stuff.
But for the bike keep it simple and save the weight for carrying a F-off lock & chain or a very well hidden tracker.
A few spanners lost with the bike won't help very much when it's vanished into a shite van.

the original toolkit was passable but it was one of the first thigs BMW cut back on in 2005 when it was clear that the bike was a winner. Sounds as if they have had a second attempt at cutting back. That said I dont know what you can put in the tiny space under the seat that would be of any help if you had a real breakdown. So oil filler, pressure guage, wheel nuts and a spare bulb or two is probably about it in realistic terms.
On my third GS and have yet to use any tool other than the oil filler cap thingy.
P.S. Thats one area where my old KTM 990 was better - the toolkit included a bottle opener.
Quoting my own post, I have already assembled a toolkit based on the Venhill one. It's all contained in a Wunderlich "Boxer" bag that fits beneath the rear carrier and although it's not secure as such, it's discrete enough that I'm yet to have anything disappear.
I added a few extra essentials for a recent trip to Spain and it now contains ....
1 x dayglo emergency vest
2 x breathalysers
Puncture repair kit
Torx wrench selection (T25, T27, T30, T40, T45)
Allen key selection (3,4,5,6mm)
Leatherman multitool
Combination spanner selection (8mm, 10mm, 13mm)
Headtorch
Spare bulbs
Disposable pvc work gloves
Aerosol foam hand cleaner
Cable ties
Under the seat I keep ...
Tyre valve angle adapter
Digital tyre pressure gauge
Oil filler key
1 spare headlight bulb
The underseat area is easier to access quickly so it has the few items I'm more "likely" to need, but with my Kenwood radio permanently fitted space is a bit of a premium!
