Hi

So I have acquired a 2006 vintage Vario Top Box. It has come with the base plate and supporting arms but no nuts and bolts. In surfing the forum for three hours I find out how to fit it and change the lock coding - all seems simple.

But I also find out about the hairline crack which can appear in earlier models - upon checking oh dear I have a hairline crack:eek:.

I have read in various posts about bolting a metal plate across as a fix - one which is now done by BMW on newer models.

Couple of questions if anyone could be kind enough to answer:

1. Does anyone have a photo of this DIY fix;
2. If I do this fix am I still left with an inherantly flawed topbox likely to fall off at any moment or is there another fix apart from bolting the box to the base plate which to be honest would nto be a great bind as the box will spend most of its time on the bike.

Many thanks.

Johnboy

1200GS Vario TopBox: Schuberth C3

I can personally gurantee:hide that a schubert C3 fits into an expanded vario topbox with at least 1cm spare in all 3D dimensions. I have a large size which is the maximum shell size available. I have tried this in five different varios aged from 2006 to 2011. Hence I have not only a topbox but one which will also carry a helmet - it may fall off but it will still be carrying the helmet inside albeit without the bike attached.

thought u needed to fit a helmet inside ?:augie

http://www.pixum.co.uk/slide/5990773 Hi mate have a look here... this is the mod I did to my top box 3 years ago... had no problem with the box falling off... I just profiled a piece of 4mm plt and fixed it in place with a couple M6 pin's and penny washers...
