1200GS Tyre pressures

Hi All,

New to site, 1200GS, 05 model, cool n groovy and all that. Please can someone advise the best tyre pressures f and r, Tourance fitted, I'm 17 stone.
Please can I have some advice as to which screen would be preferable to keep wind blast and buffeting off. The standard screen doesn't buffet, but I do get wind noise. I'm 6'6.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tyre pressures Tyre pressure, front

2.2 bar, One-up, tyre cold
2.5 bar, Two-up and/or with luggage, tyre cold

Tyre pressure, rear

2.5 bar, One-up, tyre cold
2.9 bar, Two-up and/or with luggage, tyre cold

And if you grasp the left hand (as you sit on the bike) black plastic thingymajig just about where your knee would sit, pull it off, and look at the sticker behind it..........

I would and do go with the metzler recommended pressures

I seem to remember hearing something years ago about tyre manufacturers trying to standardise pressures (at 2.5F / 2.9R )to avoid confusion and aid safety. Certainly my last five bikes (all Tigers - same tyres as GS) have been at these standard? recommended pressures.
Why BM recommend what must be a light and a heavy load setting I don't know. But I set my GS at 2.5/2.9

I think you'll find that for some bizarre reason BMW recommend lower pressures than the tyre manufacturers. I run mine a good 4-6psi higher than the manual at 36/42

Yeah, I've often wondered the same - I wonder why that is

I run the same as you and bung in 2 or 3 more when fully loaded.

I run 37psi on the front and 42psi on the back.

A little more when fully loaded.

Just fitted BT-020 this morning, recommended pressure 36psi (2.5bar) front and 42psi (2.9bar) rear... :illbe

Exactly the same as my Pan European 1100 with BT 020s fitted.
