As an aside, before I bought my first GS, I was really concerned about the position of the TPS, seemed very vulnerable, especially as I was buying for overlanding. You never hear of it getting damaged though.... and mine never did.
Different bike for different purposes. Pointless discussing why the 800 doesn't have a shaft etc because it was not built to replicate the boxers
I thinks the 800 will be a real winner in OZ where there are long distances to cover(twin much better than a thumper) and lots of crap roads to have fun on.
Dillema for me is that the 12GS, which I love, can do most of that too - some bits probably not as well (dirt) but some better (twisty tar).
Decisions, decisions. I think the bonding factor on a test ride for the 800 will be the decider for me.
Either way it is great to have the choice.
