1200GS vs Triumph Tiger 1050

I thought the Varadero handles like a pig and drinks fuel like an SP1/2. Not tried it but "I am reliably informed....." Is this true?

Does anyone have experience of a TDM which sounds like a competitor to the Triumph but doesn't have the ludicrous fuel consumption of the Honda or the cumbersome handling of the Varadero and V-Strom - so I'm told:confused:?

I've just traded in my 1200GSno.2 for a Varadero. Should have done it ages ago.

The Vara looks on paper like a fat tub of lard but it's actually a great bike. The weight vanishes on the move and for me it's a better bit of kit than the 1200GS (major deciding factor being reliability) for a hell of a lot less money.

And hey! It starts first time when covered with frost:D

The handling is certainly a bit more "ponderous" than a 1200GS with old fashioned forks and so on, but it's also a smoother ride over the speedbumps.

Tank range is easy 200 miles and the engine feels a lot better than the 1200GS (extra 30 odd kgs notwithstanding)

In France this type of bike is MUCH more common than in UK. Varadero is a bit tall for me and interesting to hear your experience of the switch. If I ditch the increasingly unreliable/expensive GS I must admit I still wonder about the TDM - also much more common over here than the R1!
