On a recent trip out a friend that was following me remarked on how my 07 plate bike appeared to be out of alignment and that the rear wheel looked to lean to the right at the top and was point slightly to the right front to back. I have spoken to my local BMW dealership and the manager has told me that this is quite normal on all GS's. I have searched forums to confirm that this is the case, but have found no discussion on it.
Has anyone else heard of this alignment issue on a GS before?

Re wheel alignment

I read on another forum about the bmw wheel alignment, so went out and checked mine, on an '06 1200gs. My rear wheel (or front, depending how you think) is offset to the left by 8mm. I cannot comment on the vertical offset, as I have never bothered to check. Apparently, some offset is standard fare on BM's, though why is a bit of mystery.:nenau
Cheers,

surely a motorcycle BMW or not is a single track vehicle and one wheel whould follow the other along a central axis - I am sure any motorcycle engineer will tell you that is imperative for handling, tracking etc.
I am a little bemused by this????:nenau

The wheels are slightly offset - SM conversions with 17" wheels off other WMBs even more so - doesn't seem to affect handling :thumb2

Don't tell me now I was wasting my time with bits of string and/or straight edges aligning the wheels on my chain-driven bikes for all those years! :spitfire

You were if you ever did it on a bevel-head Ducati. ISTR the wheels weren't in line on those as they came from the factory.

a lot of japs are outa line too, cbr600,s are an example, massed produced, i suppose there must be some tolerance
