1200GSA fuel

Hi all
IM new to the world of bmws as im fed up with jap crap so went and bought my self GSA ,and i was wondering what other members 1200GSA are doing to a full tank as i am only getting about 220-260 miles to a tank and i dont even ride it like a sports bike any feedback would be greatly appreciated

keep it under 5000rpm and you'll get a lot more out of it, but take it over that and they do start to drink it

Sounds like you are not filling the tank properly. When almost empty (i.e. you've ridden past zero miles to go) you should be able to get 35+ litres in the tank. I drilled the neck of mine and got 37.3 litres when I really tried.

Where abouts did you drill Tim?

Tim Cullis, you're a brave man. I've only had my GS for a month and 2400 miles, but I bottled at 5 miles to go on the tripmeter, and filled up.
So, the questions are--
What happens at Zero?
Does it start counting negative?
How many miles to a dry tank after zero?

it's the computer equivalent of "you're on your own".

You'll get at least as far as the 0 miles left mark - how much further you really get is between you and the next hill and how lucky you feel.

I managed around 18 miles before i bottled it, was coming up to a stretch of autobahn with lots of junctions and hardly any hard shoulder
(oh and I'd done about 400 miles @ 85mph)

I did 14 miles past zero and was getting into heavy traffic, so 'bottled out' and filled up (with the 37.3 litres). When I drilled the tank of the 1200GS I managed over 23 litres.

Today I performed the acid test, armed with a can containing about 4 litres of best unleaded in one of the boxes, I ran the tank dry. So now I know! ( on R1200GS not GSA)
After zero on the countdown tripmeter, on fast-ish A & B roads, I can get another 24 miles before the tank is dry.
That equates to well over 2 litres by my reckoning, nearly half a gallon!!!
I think that is worth knowing for when I'm in the back of beyond with a low tank, eh!
