1200GSA or 1250GSA

Utter Bollox......

That’s exactly what people say to justify loosing £5k on a bike...

You make me smile 😊 Simple is what simple thinks lol to add I would rather give up riding than go back to the 1200 LC now , I would however place a nice TB twin cam in the barn for a nice tootle out to remind me of the past 👍

I guess it's all about our own perspectives and previous experiences. There does seem to be a lot of variation from bike to bike...
The 1250 that I rode did not impress; I'm looking forward to the second test ride on a different 1250 (both GSAs). I'm preparing myself trip be blown away by it, but not holding my breath.

I still own a TC; Prefer it in many ways to my current LC. Really like the cruise control and light clutch of the LC though. Golden times that we live in

Nearly bought a modern GS today but it was too expensive

And the box was damp underneath so think the calipers were leaking :-)

Discounting them already. This must be the very very very low chassis model.

The huge torque increase from the 1250 is much more apparent and very useful if you do a lot of riding with a pillion which is when the extra wallop available for top gear overtaking really comes into its own.

The power unit is also much more flexible at low speed and is quite happy to pull smoothly in 6th at 30mph without snatching when using premium fuel.

I love my 1250 Rallye, it’s my 6th LC and the best one yet.

You’d rather give up riding??.

Simple is what simple thinks....:)

It’s all about individual experience and as I stated in my post my experience of the 1250 was not good.... I won’t be going back to a 1250 but if I had to or give up riding I think I’d make the sacrifice rather than stop riding.....

I've had 4 1200s and and 1150...the 1250 is excellent...you won't regret it...

I'm on my 6th GSA and the 1250 is the best by far in my opinion. The torque from the shift cam is just epic!

Bugger, bugger, bugger...

This thread has contributed towards costing me £manythousands

Never been totally happy with my 2014 Adventure... Clunky gearbox, rubbish GSAP, noisy engine, etc. I tested a 1250 last year but wasn't that impressed... Didn't seem much better than mine really... Certainly not £9k better.
Anyhow, just had another test ride on a 1250 and fell for it. Loved the new engine (quieter, stronger, smoother), much better gearbox and marginally improved GSAP. Loved the TFT, suspension and electronics too. Added in the cost of 3 years warranty, Mots, stuff that needs doing on mine, etc and decided to trade.

Still have some concerns over the build quality. But you only live once. And I can just about afford it!

Had lots of GSs and RTs... But never a new one! Can't wait to get it

New 1250

Picked my new 1250 GS rallye last week, just topped the 500 mile mark and absolutely no probs so far:hide:hide

Yep, another vote for the 1250 unfortunately. Bit of a quantum leap compared to my previous 1200s.

Stanley you made the right decision...And I'm not a fanboy but the 1250GS really is that good ! EU-5 bikes won't be stronger as you can see the 1290KTM lost more than 2 seconds roll-on 60-180...And from 2025 on they will be even quieter than the already quiet EU-4 units... With the 1250GS at least the EU-3 pipes fit to make them sound like a motorcycle should ! Like I said only gripes I have the bags should be big on both sides,I like a real key better than keyless and that's it...pretty close to perfect as in the best roadbike currently on sale.Hope you enjpy yours as I do mine...

Thanks.
That EU5 thing was another factor in buying now.
The only thing I wasn't keen about on the test bike was the tyres... Anakees... Turned and gripped well, but really noisy.

Nevermind, I'd taken your advice on another thread and bought some TA3s. They arrived the day I decided to trade... So will be fitted to the new bike in due course!

Cheers

Boxerthrust said it earlier...

50% less mileage on his tyres compared to the R1200

Torque eats tyres, and clutches, and gearboxes, and any other twirly toothed metal stuff..... and upto 100 mph you're not going any faster anyways, not in the real world.

I rarely go over 100mph so the R1200 is just great thank you, and I get 50% better tyre life (apparently) :thumb2

Warlord the clutch and gears are just fine on the 1250 and you only get more tire wear if you ride in Dynamic Pro with the dongle under the seat and crank that throttle...:D If not you can ride the 1250 one gear higher than the 1200 and have even less wear, quieter engine (mechanically) and get better mpg due to lower rpm but still as much power as the 1200 turning 800 rpm more...;)

... and up to 100mph it still isn't any faster than the R1200 :D

It is much faster , better off the throttle , more torque better fueling etc , that is why my mate upgraded , and I may add my tyre wear has been the same on the 1250 was it was on the 1200 , perhaps a bit less but not 50% ...
My previous bike was a 1200 TB full Hilltop tune and full system , it was good but not as good as the 1250. The proof is ownership .:thumb

Don't be daft. It'll be milliseconds and nothing in the real world.

You telling me I'd beat you on an R1250 if you were riding the R1200.

The bike difference wont make any difference up to 100mph.

It's pure paperwork stats fantasy.

Same as all the tuning wars bullshito
