1200GSA or 1250GSA

Cheers, I'm undecided as I'm now happy with my Ohlins, but when the time comes to servicing them, while they're out, I may consider changing them.

However, what I also might do is time it all and replace the Ohlins with standard ESA kit and upgrade the whole bike to the new M1300 if that ever happens... and just skip a generation.

That’s my thoughts on the next Gen , I will be keeping mine until a new one arrives , I will take out the additional warrantee and carry on with the set up I have now as for me as it’s great , but you never now in the next 12 / 24 months what may happen .Never done PCP so it’s my investment and hobby , so plenty of time to save up , may even add the evo kit . I will tho still test ride others to see what’s about but doubt any will make me think otherwise . Off to KTM in the next week or so to take the SDR out for a ride , may fancy a cafe run bike .

Upgraded my 2014 GSA with new suspension ...Tractive ESA Front & Rear plug & Play..... Tractive make the units for TT and fully ESA compatible.

Ordered and fitted from https://www.raceshocks.uk/ https://www.meteormotorsport.com/ - The owner (Simon) is very helpful and knowledgeable with regard to suspension. Took great care of my pride and joy.... highly recommended.

Some suspension strip-down pics ....

Not a difficult jobbie.... front strut is a bit a pain to in order to get the the top mounting bolt.

Yep the rear is straight forward but the front is harder due to all the bits that need to be removed to get to the strut as you say , when you do this I would advise changing the clips on the intakes.
Also check that you use the instructions on the web not in the box as I did ad they are different for the auto set up . This is for the TT .
Also the costs when I looked into it were the same at race shocks and TT , the chap was really helpful but his main knowledge was in car set up not bikes , that’s why I went to TT , Racesjocks were very helpful tho and said they would service the TT units .
I imaging now there experience will be greater and would use them to service .

Arsey you need to ride more often than penetrating your keyboard...I just got back from a 3 day ride through the twisty hinterlands of Norcal that are not unlike the alps...1200 miles. What can I say the 1250GS is the best bike as in fastes in the twisties that have often less than perfect pavent.O.K. if a guy can ride it will be hard to beat him on a S1000XR because you go that fast that you have one foot in jail and the other on the cemetary. But even here T-L is king ! And also the wonderful fat mid-range that you don't have to shift and the engine hums and you feel relaxed and less hurried/frenzied than on the XR.And also the driveshaft. The 1250GS is right now as good as it gets for this environment as in back-roads riding speeds of 120 mph max...Above that you need another 40 hp and a frame/geometry that is a little stiffer as in less frame flex and more high speed stability...but only if you can do that without the penalty of heavier steering like the 1290 KTM and 1260MS suffer from...Stick the CTA3 are awesome.Stick like glue as the NAV6 showed 52 degree max lean...Wonderful weekend...fast riding,no crashes/no tickets...wonderful bike the 1250GS with sports-suspension and cast wheels and not to forget the boom of the Akra EU-3 exhaust...:thumb2 I love this bike !!! I hope the next gen GS will be even better with more power , more high speed stability without sacrificing agility and 2 full size bags ! I'll bet 2022 will be the year...:D

I’ve done over 5000 miles in the last 8 weeks.
And will be doing another 2000 in the next 2 weeks....
What have you done apart from regurgitate the same post about how the 1250 is the best bike in the world ever but strangely it needs more power blah blah blah.....:-)

And as for CTA3s.....much prefer the grip and feel of the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR...

Arsey if you want to become a better rider (what I still want to do) it doesn't matter how far you go but how fast you go ! But you are obviously different and ride for enjoyment/sightseeing or just to ride...and that is perfectly fine ! But please don't tell us how great the origional R80G/S was or how great the A/T or T7 are today...If I had to ride these bikes I rather take the bus...;) To each their own...And yes the 1250GS is that good and there is a reason why so many guys 40 and older transfer straight from 4 cylinder superbikes to the GS and never look back !

In a nutshell .
I’ve been riding over 40 years and have no wish to go faster and faster.
I do ride for enjoyment and to kick back and enjoy the road and scenery.
That’s why I have different bikes that do different things. But people like you will never get it.
All you care about is lean angles and trying to get BMW to build a GS that is better on track. It’s utterly ridiculous but very amusing to watch.
Living in heavily policed California and banging on about riding as fast as you can is a tad pathetic.
You crack on and I’ll do what I enjoy...

Arsey of course there is no freedom in the USA and there is lot of law enforcement trying to enforce ridicilously low speed limits...But this doesn't mean you can't ride fast ! It's more fun in Mexico for sure but this is the year of the scamdemic...And yes next year there will be a new 1300 GS ! One based on the current idea but all new (maybe not the motor with 3 bearings on the crank) and one XR version with T-L and 17 inch wheels and then all will be good to all people ! You'll see...:comfort

Let’s hope so.
The market is crying out for a 170hp track-focused GS with 17 “ wheels.

Warlord , 400 mile tank-range would be awesome because I only get 150 miles between fuel stops and sometimes not even that...250 miles no matter what would be about right which leaves us with the GSA...but having to choose between having to stop more often or having a slightly lighter bike after 3 GSA's I probably would go with the regular GS but with ADV (sports) suspension...Arsey track focused would be awesome since there is no S-Boxer available anymore but with the S1000RR I would call it a XR with T-L , shaft-drive & Boxer engine...:thumby: For people who don't like forks, chains and prefer the character of a 2 cylinder to inline-fours.

My GS has a range of around 500 miles . Just saying . Boxerlust would love it .

Arsey long time ago I ran the tank dry on my R1100S in Mexico in 100 miles...:D It could have been 98 or 103 but it was 15 years ago and it was hot south of Constitution Ciudad...;) A guy on a R1150GSA gave me a gallon after 90 minutes in the sun and I thought maybe I should get me a GSA...7 years later I bought one because my buddies did too and we thought it would be cool to finally have enough gas and stop at the same time...

Arsey I had a regular 1150GS...The 1100S was a much better Baja bike...:D The 1150 was a tractor the 1100GS was faster due to the gearing...The 1150 5th was too short and the 6th way to tall...But even 25 years later the bikes are still kind of modern as far ahead BMW was then with T-L and the fuel injected boxer that was just a good engine to motor on the streets...Then 1200's were better as in lighter,smoother,stronger...but time has moved on...I liked them all but love the 1250:thumb2

ogni the R1100GS was so far ahead of it's competition in 1994 that it caused the renaissance of BMW-Motorrad and the demise of the japanese...Same with the S1000RR in 2009...But time has moved on as the current versions are much better !

Are there better ? Its a GS so should be able to mended in the field , no stupid water cooling , no fancy stuff to find out why our indicator doesnt work haha
You live i a diffrent world mate , is a GS , Gelande / Strasse ! it will do anything .
And the 1100 as the airheads have proven there do it many times over.
There is n inprovemet on the new ones , ones you break down thats it mate , finish . doersnt really matter if you of to the shops, but in the reall world 10000 miles from home it maters .
The new bikes might be good , but not true there name anymore !
Good luch with your choice

And I bet there won’t be any 1250s on the road in 25 years time , given the current build quality
