I need to remove the black tank panel just forward of the seat (as in pic).

Reason is, that brake fluid spilled on the right hand panel :blast. Therefore I’m removing both sides for re painting (so they match up).

Q. Is it an easy job to remove? If so, can anyone explain how to do it.

Take off the panels with the BMW badge first, then the plastic panel above the cylinders - it all becomes clear after that.

As above.
I just dismantled the front end of my new (to me) TC at the weekend (every panel forward of the seat including the beak) to check and grease everything, acf it and fit an oil cooler guard. As Blackal says, it all comes to bits fairly simply once the badge panels are off.

Don't have them painted, have them powder coated. You have to take off the foam on the back (you can order some more sticky foam from the dealer and put it back in the same place). Had mine painted and they lasted a year or two, power coating is much better !
