1200GSLC 2016 horrendous engine scraping noise

Hi all has anybody had this issue on a late 2016 70k 1200GSLC? Clutch working fine no slips no dragging but pull in the clutch and the most horrendous scraping noise happens.

It sounds like a clutch thrust bearing is totally shagged. ( i know its a push rod system) Bike runs fine otherwise except for pulling away of course and it judders like the clutch is knackerd.

Its now on my ramp and had my stethoscope on and around the casings. Most of the grinding noise seems to be at the rear of the engine where the prop is and noise disappears when in gear as if the backlash is taken up.

Its ok to shout but it started as I bordered the boat we ended up doing the Stelvio pass and nipped around the Swiss Alps too. so 2K round trip and was expecting a bang.

Made it home thinking clutch but now not sure?

Any ideas?
 
So would this make the clutch leaver pulse? As that kinda makes sense?
 
As its an LC with a wet clutch, whipping the front cover off and dropping the clutch basket and plates isn't beyond the average home spannerist.

The good news is most , if not all the parts are available for a rebuild

There are plenty posts o here on how to change the clutch on an LC

Yes the clutch plates change is quite strait forward. The grinding noise I don't think are clutch plates and Am just thinking a main bearing for the clutch basket maybe? I will whip the cover off tomorrow and see. even wear in the basket would only chatter not a full on grinding noise.
First thing I did on here was a search but nowt came up, Must be this new fangled UKGSER site as I could work the old site lol :D.
