1200wc to 1200gsa wc

Have any of you folks moved from a 1200wc to a 1200gsa wc?

What I would like to know is..has the heavier flywheel altered the engine characteristic at low revs ?

Below 2000 rpm my 1200 wc is very snatchy and makes driving around town a bit of a pain, always up and down the box.
Has the heavier flywheel smoothed out the low speed tractability at all ?

Think about it ....... why else would BMW be fitting the heavier crankshaft from the GSA if it didn't improve slower speed running?

Take one for a test ride - :nenau I changed from the LC GS to the LC GSA and just found it was a better bike all round, then perhaps it suited me better as I came from a GSA originally - :blast
 
Answer is yes - but then again the standard 1200GS will come with the new heavier fly wheel any time now as well so no need to trade across to a GSA as such.
 
The heavier the flywheel the smoother the delivery. The cost is that the heavier the flywheel the less responsive the engine. It's a straight swap.

I wonder? Is there any down size to the heavier flywheel, does the engine feel less rapid on pick up, race engines normally tend to have lightened flywheel/cranks?

The current LC motor has quite a tuned engine feel, the way the revs pick up instantly between gear changes when you blip the throttle, and the way that the exhaust cracks out.

However, I can see that the heavier crank will give the power delivery and the bike a smoother more refined feel and particularly at low speed.

I also wonder if the original raw 2013 bike will end up being a sort after model in the years to come, with it's 'alive' steering and light-crank free revving motor?

I'm looking forward to trying one!
 
I test rode the two back-to-back and in my view the low speed tractability was much better on the GSA, and although it's early days as I've only put 1000 miles on the bike I find it much improved over my old (non-LC) GSA.

Yep, I did, I had the GS LC for a year from March 2013, and got the GSA LC this March. You do notice the heavier flywheel, low speed is a big improvement. But as others have said, the converse is that the motor doesn't spin up quite so enthusiastically as before. On balance, I prefer it with the heavier flywheel, it makes for a more relaxing ride.
 
I've moved from the GS LC to the GSA LC and I prefer the feel of the heavier flywheel. When pulling at very low revs whilst manoeuvring the engine feels less likely to stall.
 
I've ordered a 2015 GSA, coming in September, and can't wait. Well, I can really!:P I wonder if it'll spin up quicker once it's got the full Akra fitted?:augie
 
I prefer the 2013 gslc with lighter crank. Feels far more sporty and dont have any problem with low speed running. Suits people coming from a livelier sports bike. As said by a previous poster i thjnk the lighter cranked bike will be more sort after much like the early suzuki tl 1000 and the early suzuki bandit a d probably lots of early model bikes. Am i talking shit.....

+1 I'm with you fella, I've ridden both and prefer my 2013LC as it just picks up faster and turns quicker which suits my riding style more.

Just my particular preference and I did also enjoy riding the GSA and I think it looks great!

Of course the other bonus of the GSA is you get the built in deer scarer ;) :D

Same here but I like both bikes I find the GSA better as I like the bigger tank but all in all it's very similar but yes it is definitely better for slow riding
But just as good for the fast stuff too

I test rode both before settling for the GSA. I found the GS had more tourque in the first couple of thousand, I just preferred the GSA. A bit smoother and once rolling I couldn't feel any differance. Both fantastic fun. I just liked the feel of the GSA over the GS but both gave me a huge grin.
 
I've been and had a couple of hours on one this afternoon.

Much smoother power delivery and able to pull smoothly away from 20mph in 6th gear,plus the gearchange was 100% better than mine.

However,it felt a fair bit slower and no where near as nimble as my standard 1200wc,plus the cost to change was silly.

I'm actually beginning to think the Explorer is possibly a better bike for me !!

I think your spot on, I waited for the GSA to come out and thought no I like the feel of the GS so much more, and it's available in red so it is a lot faster than the other drab colours :pullface

To be honest despite much preferring the heavier crank engine myself I think that BM have perhaps made a mistake. Having the standard GS with a sportier "feeling" engine gives it a major point of difference to the GSA. Now there will be less reason to buy a GSA over the GS.

I found the same when I rode one in May, and my order is subject to another test ride. But, since getting the first LC, I find myself riding much quicker, so maybe the GSA will be better for my mortality, and licence!:P Mind you, I have also ordered an S1000R!:blast:D
 
GS 15 my

I had a long hard think over the GS WC and I hope now the 15 model year revisions will mean its getting there as it too now has the GSA flywheel, didn't fancy the keyless go
but have the gear assist ordered.

Can't wait as my GSA hex struggled to keep up with the multistrada and 1190 ktm.

Apart from the engine I have found the WC Sachs suspension awesome as the yanks say.:aidan
