So the 11 year old 1150GSA goes for a service and MOT (by Ryders as Mike of Cardiff motorrad not available :augie)

The nice Craig gets me a 1200GSA WC for the day - second time I have ridden one.

As I posted, I really liked it last time, but this time it did not gel in the same way:nenau

Back on the old girl and - SHOCK HORROR - I PREFER HER!!!!! I know, I know. b*stard luddite that I am.

There was I planning on spending some of my retirement funds on a shiny, bling ridden GSA, and the damned thing did not come up to the mark.

The 1150GSA is genuinely smoother (I know, a lot slower off the mark, but what the hell), so much more solid (metal vs plastic) and after 11 years she still looks good - not a patch of rust on her. I don't ant to start yet another new vs old thread, but was interested that despite my prejudice I genuinely preferred the 1150 when ridden back to back.

So, looks like we are staying married and I save £14,000 - well dayum!

Two questions:

1; what can I do to make the side stand longer? Even with a wunderlich "shoe" she still tilts a long way and when fully loaded is a bugger to right.

2; other than practice practice (and I have ridden 50k miles on her, and go to the gym fairly regular) ) what can I do to overcome the hugely impressive weight which saps my confidence especially off road?

1; a) Screw an Ice hockey puck to the stand foot £5 b) Just had a stand extended by Vern yesterday on my wife's bike, cut stand in half fit an extension piece in and weld, also you can put a bend in the top of the stand to get it to lift the bike using a series of saw cuts the re welding.

2; a) Have 2 sets of wheels, off road set have the most aggressive tyres you can buy ie. NOT TKCs
b) Ride an off road bike off road

Touratech do a side stand extended with additional alloy lpates you can fitted to the height you require. See photos as fitted to GS but also I had same on GSA.

Have we got contact details for Vern - I have the same problem with my 1150 Adv and even with a puck the lean is too much - another puck will cure it but then the side stand will foul the mainstand...

Keep it within these walls lest you be branded a fool, pedant, prick, wanker and all the other names thrown at me for suggesting that the WC isn't necessarily better for all.

Ps. You made the right choice :D

Pps. By right choice I mean picking the bike that suits you rather than the one others will have you believe is the only worth having.

Funny you should say that,
In the last 2 weeks I have done over 1100 miles on the 1150gsa and the more I ride it the more I love it.
Was going to get rid this year but can't bring myself to advertise it..

When I read the title I thought "this is going to say he was moving on from the 1150" and having read the first post I felt vindicated for buying a second 1150 to share the garage :augie (for the moment). I did a 600 KM spin today and other than a sore ass I cant fault my 1150 either.

Hi,
Just got back from a 3k km round trip to the mainland, apart from a nail in the rear tyre the bike performed fine.

Came across a few WCs and hell new motor is noisy, drowned out my clanky 56k km 2000 R1150GS.

I also lust after the latest and greatest but my blond GS fuel tank just does it for me, oh those curves, mmmmmm :eyebrow

well done keeping the 1150gsa I prefer older ones to the new ones because less things to go wrong and also still aircooled engines they are tough as old boots ive got a 1150 gsa and a 1150rt never part with them ever

Isn't the 1200 Adv heavier? :augie

I didn't say 1200 adv ....I said 1200.

Ridden the 1200adv twice now and to be honest I would rather have my 99 1100 if I had to choose between the two.

but given a choice between the standard 1200wc and my 1100 I'd have the 1200.

Steve

Looking at that thing on the end of the sidestand reminded me of these people you used to see with One Big shoe. Never see anybody with one now.
