1250 GS - Ignition Won't Switch On

Recently returned from the IOM TT and rode in near torrential rain from Heysham ferry port to North Wales. Put the bike to bed in the early hours. Then went to move/wash my bike today and the Ignition came on very briefly and then went off.

I have changed the remote battery but the Ignition still won't come on. The battery is new, having been replaced for a lithium one pre-TT trip.

Has anyone had a similar experience or can suggest a fix?

What's the red TFT light doing? is it flashing quickly, or not flashing? Sounds to me like a dead battery or loose connection. If the red TFT light is flashing quickly, it means it cannot see the key fob.

No TFT light. I’ve just checked the 3 x main fuses including the 50A one and all okay.
I suspect the battery is now the issue so will remove & check……

Battery box full of water as were the battery spacers. Voltage check - 2V. Obviously the battery had shorted/discharged with the ingress of water.

How would that short the battery?

The battery tray is open on one side ?

I rode several LC's through some attrociious weather, battery issues were not one of the issues i encounterd

3 hours of torrential rain and I can assure you that the whole battery area was soaking, including the terminals and that was 12 hours after the event!
Not sure how the water entered but I will investigate further tomorrow.

Crikey! Interested to know how this happened. Drainage holes maty be easy to do, but I've never heard of a submerged battery on a GS..

The hole in the battery tray is very small
Considering how open the area is.
On both of ours I’ve opened it up considerably and it still blocks occasionally with off road use.
You have to make sure you remove the seat and check when you wash it.
I’ve seen them fill up being washed where the hole is blocked.

I had that happen to an Audi A4 when the drain holes got blocked up with pine needles.
