1250 GS Rallye vs S1000XR

When I first started reading this topic I thought the OP was giving it some thought til you reach the last post and it's all done and dusted :blast

Not had an XR myself but ridden one quite a few times, it was the bike that finally convinced me revvy IL4s are no longer for me. Bonkers to ride and a shit load of fun but I've been there and done that and as fun as it is, for me, the roads are just far too busy nowadays for that type of rind all the time, and lets be honest, it has to be all the time when you have one of these things.

So for me it all depends how you like your riding, if it's ball out all the time the xr is the go to bike I guess. :thumb

Have they sorted out the vibey stuff yet ? That would get right on my tits if I owned one full time.

You don’t have to ride like a twat all the time - some may struggle though.........

Vibrations? I have the bar-end weights on my 2016 model - no problem (might be okay without the weights?)

But - matters not to me that everyone wants or rides the same bike as me - not a crusade.

"insert" I ride like a fanny but have big boys bike to make others think I can ride fast.

Fucking fanny !

Says Tesco-Taxi McTwatface.......... :aidan

You’re funneeeeeeeee................. (unusual for a Dundonian)

I had an XR for 10k miles in a year. I personally prefer the GS it’s more of an all rounder.

Better instruments etc
Better luggage
Better lights
Better mpg 45 vs 55 for me.
Better looks imo
Better seat comfort but both good
No fork dive etc
Don’t have to thrash the tits off it to be having fun

I used my XR in Spain and was riding everywhere like I was on a track day, the GS gives its kicks at lower speeds. Get a full exhaust on your GS if you want to spice it up. I’m a big fan of the boxer twin wouldn’t have another XR without big changes.

Is that it ? Is that the best you've got :D

Found right out by your own words :blast look at me with the big fast bike :D

I've come across loads like you, usually holding me up in the corners ;) all the show with no fucking go :bow

You needing me to break your sliders in for you :green gri

I rode one for a day and couldn't wait to hand it back, didn't like the vibration in the handlebars.
The XR is really a sportsbike in adventure clothes, the GS is a touring bike in adventure clothes.
Buy the bike that suits what you actually do on it and you will love it, whatever bike that is.

Jeez! You’re an an angry wee Dundonian......

I’ve made no claims to ‘riding a big bike’..............

Your head’s full of mad-dog’s shite.

Okay - wanna just show me the catalyst to that claim?

Question, do you have a pillion, if yes have a test ride with pillion on rear. I fancied the XR after a long test ride, but when I took it for a second test ride with my partner on pillion it got the thumbs down compared to the GS. Too vibey and the seat not as comfortable.

Just got back from a 350 miler today thro the welsh back roads on my GS , feel as fresh as a daisy , banged on all day edge to edge , wet / dry .
Brilliant . Rode an XR for a weekend on similar roads and found it a handful to ride consistently fast , great on the copper roads , but on the fun stuff tiring and hard work for me .
Stonking engine but in the rite place .
To add the bike I borrowed was a fellow rider mate who then decided to change to a Gs , several rides later as he found the Gs better when using mine on said exchange

test rode an XR yesterday

Took a 2019 XR out yesterday, as was considering chopping in my GS1200 Rallye TE, as fancied a bit more power.

I didn't like it as much as my GS for these reasons.

Less wind protection
Handlebar vibes
Little engine braking
Less comfortable
Just found it harder to ride fast on bumpy back roads
Felt like you had to really rev it to appreciate the motor.

Still a very good bike, but recently test rode a Superduke R 1290 which felt much better for similar performance,

Still pondering over a Superduke GT or wait for 1250's to start to come through 2nd hand.

Cheers,
Piggers

That’s a rather odd choice, as the two are completely different styles of bikes.:nenau
