Well after many happy years and miles of KTM ownership (19,000 trouble free miles on my last 1290 Adventure S) I'm jumping ship and have ordered a 1250 GS. Not because I've been unhappy with any of my last 5 KTM road bikes but I fancy a change Hopefully the bike won't have rusted away, the battery gone flat and the calipers leaked all over the floor before I take delivery in March. As for the left hand cylinder noise, I'll wear ear plugs. Plus in the options box I ticked the good bike built on a Wednesday before the October fest box so I'm sure things will be fine.

So onto the question in the headline.

I want spotlights, both for better daytime visibility and night time riding. I see the GSA comes with spot lights but unless I'm going blind haven't seen them listed as an extra amongst the multitude of farkles for the GS. However even if they are listed they will no doubt be very expensive.

I usually fit my preferred type of spotlights (Baja Designs S2 pro combo) which I know give a good spread and depth of light, but are very small. The KTM factory option ones were pretty crap, especially for the money.

So does anyone know of any good options of spotlights/driving lights, plus brackets and wiring that work with the standard GS please? To complicate matters further without the need to fit engine bars as well. Plus any issues with non standard lights being wired into the BM's canbus system?

Hopefully there is a pool of knowledge here that means I don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks in anticipation.

I will second the Denalis and associated fittings. Easy to install and work well. Have installed CanSmart, D2 spots and rear stop/tail lamp for less than I was quoted for the simpler BMW spots from my dealer.

GSA spotlights are indeed available as a factory or dealer fit option. Talk to your dealer and twist their arm for a deal. The advantages of the BMW spotlights over other makes are that they fit, they look like they fit, they work with can-bus, they come with a BMW warranty and they look like they fit.

didn't I see the BMW spots are available as a special, £399 fitted?
Although the denalis are excellent (I have D4) the cost of these and the controller exceeds the offer price - unless someone knows better:nenau

How good are the BM spotlights at night, wide diffused beam, driving light or actual spot light pattern?

I have them on mine and they look brilliant and have their own switch!

Definitely available as a BMW option but I was quoted nearly £900 to supply and fit from my dealer (no offers at the time) and have installed the Denali spots and brake light system for about £600. All integrated with the can bus so no extra switches required and fully configurable for brightness and other functions through the CanSmart unit. Front spots look just like Stevie900's set up as I have the same bike and same spots by the look of it!

Cameltoe has some lights ( which a possibly the denali) that i cannot believe are legal

When he is behind you its like something from Close encounters of the 3rd kind, no one will have him behind at night they are so dazzling, Lorries on motorway heading in the other direction flashing at him as the light emitted is like a collapsing sun

If these are the lights that folk are recomending then personally i think they are way too much

Sounds like the lights are poorly adjusted then rather than too bright. Also you can dim the lights as well, mine are set to 100% on DRL and main beam but only 30% on dip to avoid just this sort of problem.

Hi just to add there is until March at Chandlers BMW Brighton, and probably elsewhere a See and be Seen promotion of BMW spots fitted as a previous poster confirms for £399. Had them on mine and they are OK so, longhas not pointing at the ground. Check you local dealer

Bowkers in Preston are carrying this promotion too, Think I saw it at Williams Manchester as well

Redrick refers to my Denali D4,s...... top lights....not cheap but worth every penny in my opinion.

Well thank you very much everyone for the input, greatly appreciated. Having looked at the various specs of the Denali D2, D4, S4 and D7’s vs the BM spots I think it’s going to be the D4’s for me. All very enlightening.

Yes, they do a winter offer, but I think they're £450.
