1250 GSA Trophy edition - Recalled today

Yes, but I was always told never buy a new GS on launch as it’ll be full of snags.Wait until the model is well established .Yet the new 1300 is just around the corner and they’re still design finding faults with the current model, my bike included.
This will definitely be my last BMW.

Honestly, looks to me as this recall is to make sure that if you ride in Enduro Pro mode (where traction controll is reduced) and make a jump, the rear wheel may spin up unless the rider ease off on the throttle.

Appearently, this recall will help the rider in order to prevent excessive spinup.

I don't consider this recall as a fault repair, but rather as a moron protection...

This is actually an accurate description I think

Cheers, I’ve been using Williams as well with no issues. This was mainly due to Chester being crap. Ill give Halliwell Jones a go for this recall and possibly tie it in with my next service, as it does not seem that urgent for anyone that only rides on road.

i think halloween was a good description

they've just done my first 6000 service - not sure why the brake fluid needed doing - but i'm not any sort of mechnaic, bike didn't get washed either but it was around the 250 mark so...mmmmmmmmmmm

as bmw car driver its not comparable so don't think it is, i may try Mcr as i live betwen the two as a comparrison

service is remote from the showroom there are some tables and chairs to sit on. There is some comfier seating to the rear for Tarquin and Jocasta to sit on while their litlte bmws are pampered
i didn't think they were for motorcyclists

Looks like they are a bit dearer than Williams. Will give them a chance and see how we get on.

Will this update urrr update the TFT software to the latest issue too? Does anyone know?

I went there 1st time for the replacement of the rubber valve thing......spoke to the mechanic who seemed to know his stuff and was helpful
I went and sat on the posh seats and drank the nice coffee and ate the posh biscuits
I will ring at service time and get an idea of price, as I did last time....Williams were way cheaper than Cheshire and Shropshire dealers over the last 3 years even with the travelling
Tarquin :D

Yes, it's global update. My BMW mechanic confirmed it.
As I said here already, this is great oportunity for 1250 owners to get the latest software for free.

Hopefully my 2018 GS needs the recall then as my TFT screen has a couple of issues I'm hoping a software update will fix, namely the overall MPG randomly resetting itself and the similarly random forgetting my helmet pairing.

Bikes back, software update has apparently been done, but the TFT still shows version - 023_011_060

So I can only assume it's an update to another module on the bike, but I would imagine if your TFT version is much older it'll also be updated as part of this.

i didn't think 250 ish was that bad really comparable to Kawasaki - not sure how much cheaper it could be

the thing is, it’s really only temporary until the other site gets sorted. The reaction you get from car owners was typical, no one would sit at the same table and the sneering looks....

anyway, chin chin just popin down to corners for the weekend - little filly to entertain in daddies cliff top retreat

must fly....chow

the overall MPG randomly resetting itself .

I had this problem on my March '22 GSA. Reported it to my dealer (Alan Jefferies at the time) who then reported it to BMW

BMW recommended a new TFT screen. To fully install this they had to download the latest software.

Done last September and no problems since

Mike

Email from my dealer:

Your BMW Motorrad R 1250 GS, registration number 03BMW .

Dear Mr Zoltan,

Our records show that you are the owner of the above-mentioned BMW motorcycle (not since last year:blast), a vehicle which is currently subject to a recall.
It would appear that in R 1250 GS models, some riding manoeuvres with an abrupt change in rev speed between engine and final drive (for example the abrupt deceleration of the rear wheel at high engine revs, such as when landing after a jump) can, in rare cases, result in an overload of the transmission input shaft, potentially resulting in damage to the shaft and compromised riding safety. As part of the recall a revised engine application will be installed which will prevent the overload of the transmission input shaft and rectify this potential problem.

Please contact our Service Teams as below, in order to book your motorcycle into our workshop. The time for the work involved can vary between 1 & 3 hours to complete. This recall will, of course, be performed free of charge to you, it may also be possible to collect and deliver your motorcycle or combine with other work, please mention this when booking in your bike.

My dealer called me today to book my bike in for recall and swingarm mod.
Said the recall can take 20 mins to update but they’ve had a couple that took over 2 hours.

What mechanic at my dealer told me is that the update duration depends on the last version installed on the bike. When I went to visit last time and talk about the recall, he was updating one GS that still had original version from 2019. It was on its 3rd hour of updating. As my bike has the version just one before this needed one, he said it could take just 20 minutes.

You would think that dealers would do this when bikes went in for a service (aren't they supposed to at main dealers)? Obviously this is only the case if taken to a BMW dealer for a service but then again I bought mine second hand from a BMW dealer and it has an outstanding INFO recall as well as this latest recall so they clearly didn't bother updating it (they had changed the shaft drive though)
