Info leaked from BMW R&D in MCN comic today.

Let the debate begin...:Motomartin

It'll be interesting to see what emerges.

There have been rumours about BMW moving on from the Boxer for years, so nothing new there.....

I guess that goes with the rumors that there is another 'long way'... trip in the works this time on Yamaha Tenere' 1200..

Apparently the new LC engine will still be a Boxer, with similar HP & Torque to the current engine. But it will comply with the new Euro 4 emission regs.

It would help to meet future noise requirements, so they may have to make such move. LC allows for higher power output. However, here applies what IMO goes for the DOHC heads, no one needs it. :nenau

the world is gonna end in 2012 everyone knows that. So it's gonna be hard for BMW to get any ROI if they choose this option. I therefore believe that they'll stay with the boxer engine for abit longer...:augie

no but I guess it will be now it's been written here....:augie

I think BMW will continue ti increase the enigine size until it's 2400cc, just slightly bigger than the Triumph Rocket. At this point they will declare domination of the biking world, cease making petrol engines altogether and all future GS's will run on electric. Therefore the long way round pt 8.5 will go from London to Eastbourne where they'll need to stop to recharge the bikes :blast

for the 'Power booster'......

bm did a watercooled prototype years ago,
im surprised this years wasnt one,
as said before, itl only be for noise regs etc, nothing else will be gained from it

Except maybe a few less broken exhaust valves? And maybe tossers will finally believe that you can actually let the engine idle without it self destructing and melting into a pool.
