Actually that's just to wind up Nutty !
More Crap News have just tested the 1290GT against the XR and Multistrada and gave the win by 2-1 to the XR as it has better mile munching capability and weather protection. But they preferred the handling and engine in the GT.They also commented on the XR's vibes and crap heated grips
The Ducati didn't get a look in.

I think when you you start comparing bikes of this level then they are all great.

It will be definitely down to personal preference or possibly a loyalty to a particular brand.

So no doubt about it the 1290 should have come out tops:D

Absolutely.

I'll probably never buy another new BMW ,having been put off by the recent poor build quality ,and the fact that my local dealer is utter shite. But my KTM dealer is brilliant,as he happens to be a good mate and just 300 metres from my door.

As the review, says, the BMW is a more middle of the road bike that does it all so if you only have one bike then it is probably the better bet.But I'd rather have the one with the better handling, more power and no nasty vibes.......

The side profile of the KTM compared to the BM is shocking, fook me the KTM is ugly!

The Ducati isn't much better.

I'm sure they are all great bikes, and even more sure that 99% of riders couldn't use them to their true capabilities, so for me it's the looks of the XR that wins it.

It is all well and good talking about these bikes as tourers etc but speaking from experience if you are going to do a reasonable tour of 2000 miles or so you need to factor in a set of tyres or at least a rear tyre just for that tour. The XR and the super duke eat them at an alarming rate. I can't comment on the multi. Unless you are going to ride at a very gentle pace.

That does not detract from the brilliance of the bikes but without harder tyres at the sacrifice of some grip it adds to the tour cost.

Not a particular consideration for me as i just love the XR ( mine has very little in the way of vibes BTW) but to some that may be an issue

The GT looks like a great bike, and I wouldn't rule one out one day. But, and it's a big but, if KTM are going to go head to head with BMW, charging BMW money, they really need to invest some serious money into their dealer network.

MCN have one thing right there is only one Grand Tourer in this test, if Frumpy and Vibey can chew up a rear tyre in less than 2k they are not much use as a tourer

2500 from a rear so not less than 2k but nonetheless it has to be factored in as not much riding either side of a tour to a rear tyre

However whilst on said tour the XR will deliver so many smiles !

there's an old bull (GS) and a young bull (any of the above) standing on a hill looking down at a field of cows...

the young bull says "lets run down there and fuck a cow"

the old bull says "lets walk down there and fuck them all"

I thought most BMWs come 'pre-fucked' :augie

Funny isn't it what people like and don't like 'cos to me the Ducati is beautiful, the KTM right up there there with it, (maybe just behind) and the WMB whilst nice enough is just a Euro styled UJM.

For some of us the fact that a lot of KTM dealers are old skool family run businesses and provide hand written invoices ;) is all part of the deal, in a good way :)

KTM must be doing something right though, who is Europe's biggest motorcycle manufacturer?

Indeed, Andres

6 miles in one direction I have a KTM road dealer, Teasdales and they're spot on, old style premises but it's better than a glass palace and labour prices are realistic

6 miles in the other direction I have Eurotek, a KTM dirt dealer who operate out of an industrial unit and sell a shed load of bikes, have a great workshop and know the bikes inside out and can do engine rebuilds/suspension servicing - proper old school

Compare that to a lot of BMW dealers, who provide the glitz and very little else in terms of value-for-money

I have said this before but I will say it again

The XR is much faster than a GS and handles way Better and for me it is a better bike but on tour in the company of a GS or three the extra pace is only any good if I am prepared to ride or go faster than the GS will which is too fast for comfort.

On a long trip to the mountains the GS will get you there in luxury and you will have fun once there. The XR will get you there in some comfort and give way more fun once there.

And having said that I will enjoy riding the XR on that trip more than i would have the GS but it really is one mans meat blah blah

Yeah...and??!!! Eva Herzigová would most likely out-fuck me too but it would be jolly good fun having a damn good go! :augie

Sigh, I wish BMW would build the 1150 again to put an end to all this willy waving nonsense :rob

It's called a KTM 1050 Adventure........ Can still be had for £8.5k new, quality components same power/torque as an Africa Twin - and loads of potential.

OK, no Coffee or Biscuits but I didn't need that..
