1290 SA S review

KTM need to start and get a few delivered into the uk ,I seem to have been seeing pictures and reading reviews for months.I'm waiting to try one before I commit I have a pillion to consider so it has to be as comfy as my GS.

Don't bother then.It won't be an armchair .

Well thanks a lot, I really did not want to read that!

I can see my future..... The 1050 is on a PCP.... 2 years to go.............be patient young grasshopper.....you have no need for 160bhp:augie

I'll make my own mind up when I eventually get to try one,one of the criteria for me these days is comfort I'm afraid boring I know to all you iron man bikers !

They do an Ergo seat which is supposedly comfortable and heated but I suspect a GS may still be better in this respect.

Yes seen that in the configurator, wife fancies the heated seat.It looks so good especially in black I'm desperate to like it.GS is a great bike,my first non jap bike but it lacks grunt when overtaking ,heavy bike I guess 2 up with luggage.Great trip by the way on the MT10 Arsey

I have the Ergo seats...... Mandatory.....

My missus prefers the pillion on the 1190 (standard S or R seat) to the Hexhead GSAs we had previously. I know, I found it hard to believe too :)

Only issue is the ally PP/TT top box tilts forward so much it really compromises room, so i don't use it two up. I hate fucking top boxes anyway, and she never uses it as a backrest as she knows how to pillion properly :D

I bloody love KTM I really do but christ, I'm wondering if they've left anything for the rider to do . :blast

They're going for broke in the mass market - it's what people like Nutty want and will equal sales. I've mixed feelings about it; got my R 'cos I wanted manual suspension amongst other reasons and paid no heed to the other electronics on the bike..........but..........you know what, now I have them I do actually use them and like having them. It would still never be a consideration when buying a bike though and when I want a gentle reminder of what a real bike is about I jump on the Guzzi ;)

Talking about Guzzi's I'm about to pop of for an MOT on the new one. Tim who does the MOT has a lovely 990SD he's had from new and that really is a gorgeous bike; minimal frame, engine and two wheels..............simplistic, stripped down fun :thumb2

There you go, there are worse things to look at waiting for an MOT

And it'd be rude not to show one of his other bikes........

My Mrs reckoned the GS was the best pillion bike, then again before that I had sportsbikes and since then just the Super Tenere which was a close second to the GS for comfort - but she preferred the smoother (Than Aircooled GS) Yamaha engine and its much smoother power delivery so it was a draw, my guess is the WC GS is a lot smoother.

Since then she got her own bike so her comments on the KTM are probably invalid as once you have ridden your own bike being on the back always sucks, but for what it is worth she reckons the GS was better.I think the Ergo seats are a must, I lasted about 3 weeks before going back to the dealer (The Mrs go on the back was pre Ergo seat)

If passenger comfort is your only buying criteria I would go for a Goldwing - or a car.

I suspect the latest GS will be a bit more comfortable for the passenger, but it is also dog slow and damned heavy.

My top tip is get her on her own bike and then you can ride whatever you bloody well want.
