I think the Ergo is a great step up from standard (which is diabolical)

Still not sure it is enough to match the GS levels of two-up comfort as it has a bigger seat with more room for the passenger, even my S10 was behind the GS and that was more spacious than the KTM....

...my Mrs solution to improving comfort was getting her own bike, this has worked a treat, we are both much happier and more comfortable and I do not need a "Two-up Bike" so I can buy whatever bikes I want - I doubt I would have managed to convince her to give up the S10 for the KTM if she was still riding pillion - but I would probably of just kept the S10 for two-up and bought the KTM anyway.

FYI: I asked about warranty term and what the cost of extended would be. KTM's reply was 'This is with a 24 month warranty, at the moment there is no extended warranty option available in the UK however we are looking at this and it may become available in the future'.

I thought that I had read somewhre on here that KTM did a similar extended warranty as BMW do.

KTM have been saying just that for the last several years :blast

It's a KTM, not a BMW. What would you need a warranty for?

Retires, all fingers crossed :augie

Tells you a lot heh !

Yep that folks will only consider long term ownership of a BMW if they can get an extended warranty. Not sure it tells you anything about KTM's ;)

After a shake up in the garage, I'm thinking of switching my order to an S. I'll take one out on Saturday, and go from there.

'The 1290 Super Adventure S's price as ridden with the "Travel Pack" and touring cases comes to £15,715. The BMW R1200 GS Adventure starts at £13,500 but requires a further £2,700 throwing at it, bringing the total to £16,200, in order to get to the same specification level as the KTM - but you'll still be 35 horsepower short of the KTM and Ducati. The Ducati will set you back a whopping £15,575 but comes out of the crate at almost the same level of specification as the KTM with the "Travel Pack" fitted, requiring only the "Touring Pack" to be lifted from Ducati's accessories catalogue for a further £895, bringing the total to £16,490. So, all in all, there's perhaps £775 between the three.

So what would make me buy the KTM over the competition? The answer is simple - that motor, the brilliant 6.5” display, and the fact it's incredible value for money.'

Let's hope you keep whichever bike you decide on longer than the Triple Cack !!

Hey Nutty, let me know what ya think after your sedate test ride and remind me what you ride now by way of comparison. Last time I visited the forum you were on a GS or was it a Honda 90. Been across to Ducati MTS, S10000000XR and Africa Twin myself but test riding the 17 GS the morrow.

Test road the Adv. S yesterday and it was surprisingly good (my last KTM was a 690 Duke). Fuelling spot on, gearbox very good other than neutral and 1st to 2nd on occasion going to neutral but thats fixable with longer gear lever for me. Ergo good with relatively low footpegs.

Engine delivers ballistic grunt but mirrors vibed at high revs......mpg 42 with a mix of thrashing it and pootling with missus riding shotgun, she did not like lack of room but first bike with still air for pillion.

Good balance and easy sure roadholding. Suspension seems OK and ride very smooth but Ducati more impressive but that may be about familiarity.

Engine vibes at some rev ranges but its a V twin .....

The rider screen thingy is the future. Very clear, easy to read and access. Never did master the MTS settings. It is a brilliant feature and I can see satnav on there in the near future, Bosch wont resist it.

Useful test report - thanks.

Hope the 'rider screen thingy' does not become an object of desire with the tea leaves like the GS's were/are.
