1290 super adventure pic!

That's fine. All KTM are doing with this new model is covering another area of the market. One area their existing bikes was always weaker than bwm was carrying a passenger. Maybe it takes a lardier bike to do well there. We will see. Anyway, beauty is in the nose of the beholder.

Loved my 990, love my 1190 but the 1290 just seems too big. One of the best things about moving from a GS to KTM was the weight loss and the 1290 is heavier and looks a bit too lardy for my tastes.

Just my view.

Correct. From all the reports I have read its intended to be more 'luxurious' (I read that to be more comfortable & relaxing as well as being well equipped) in the way it can cover big distances than the 'lesser' perhaps more sportier versions.....

What is the weight loss between an 1190 and a GS LC (not GSA)?

Around 10kg I believe. I went from an '09 1200 Adventure to my first KTM, a 990 Adventure which was over 20kg lighter and what i was referencing. I do plenty of miles two up and both my 990 and my current 1190 are comfortable enough for long days.

Maybe that is dependent on the pillion, Domestic Management was very comfortable on the back of my GSA's, to the point she has been known to fall asleep. But she hated the 990A, she reckoned the seat was uncomfortable and way too vibey, to the point she was losing teeth. But by comparison she doesn't mind the 1190A. Maybe the 1290A would suit her even more, just not sure I want one....

There are a lot of interesting features:
++++++
-Sophisticated TC that may actually do something.
Advanced ABS and hill start.
-Looks comfy.
-lighter than the GSA
-A huge wave of torque would allowing super smooth progress, the bike could be left in 100bhp mode and just use the torque.
-The suspension will probably be the most advanced on any touring bike.
-Heated seats, why not? I liked them on my K bike.

Going by the pictures,
_ _ _ _ _
-not as interesting looking as the GSA, it will certainly look better in the flesh.
-Is it only available in white?
-I don't like the boxes and really like the Varios.
-No dealer in Eire.
-The strength of Sterling having to buy from NI
-Most of my riding gear has BMW blazed across it.

I like it and will have a good look, I also like the the forthcoming HP4 "adventure" bike.

Seeing it at the NEC, I wasn't blown away by it compared to the previous year when the 1190, for me, was the bike of the show. But I have to say the more I see it and the more I read up on it, the more it is growing on me.

Has anyone had a test ride yet? the only negative im hearing from journalists is that it should be shaft and not chain driven. Imbooked in next week to test ride the GSA and waiting out on KTM to get back to me to test ride the 1290 and 1190 back to back.

Would like to hear a real life experience

At the moment the KTM is ahead for me.

Just completed a demo ride and am totally sold on the bike. Not the best looking bike out there, but a very sure handling ride with loads of torque! Trading in a 2014 BMW GSA. Should get the first one from Jim Aim's at the end of this month.

that's what i think too.

can't see the point of hill start though. can't say i've felt the need for that.

It'll be interesting how many people move over to the 1290 from GS's.

The 1190's are not such a direct competitor IMO but the 1290 has ostensibly got the comfort and bells'n'whistles to take the GS on, on a more equal footing. I still think though that it won't be as refined or 'practical' as a GS..........time will tell I guess :nenau

Thanks, I googled these guy's but I don't know anything about them, what is the KTM motorcycle part of the dealership like?
Will they have the 1290's on the showroom floor?

I bought my kTm from them. They had a 1290 at the bike show and told me they were getting 5 1290's in this year.
