1290 super adventure pic!

I bought my kTm from them. They had a 1290 at the bike show and told me they were getting 5 1290's in this year.

Thanks Shay, I will deffo take a run up there when I am back in Ireland. Reading on the net, I think they are the old Capitol Honda outfit.
Any idea of price for a fully specked bike with luggage?
The RRP on their website is: €21,950.00
You can add cost of goddies and its going to be a more expensive bike than the GSA

I *think* they said luggage wasn't included in the price for the 1290. tbh, you are better off getting 3rd party luggage. I have the kTm plastic panniers and top box and they are shite. I will probably get a givi top box this year and I use a roll bag when I overnight. If I was getting panniers I would get Nolan panniers, with the wings short exhaust.

I don't think the 1290 needs much bling, it comes as standard with crash bars, heated seats & grips, etc. The only think I would add is the gps mount and a side stand puck?

I've the Holan Nomada panniers. I bought these rather than getting KTM's own ones. Very sturdy, racks can be fitted in about 10/15 minutes, but they were more expensive. I will probably try to sell them later in the year as I won't be doing any big trips on the bike this year and who knows if I'll have the 1190 next year. I use a Givi top box as it is just my preferred type of box on my SW Motech rack.

I think I remember reading that Triumph went to BMW's pannier supplier. They might be long in the tooth, but the system ones do integrate into the bike rather well. Most odd if they won't supply KTM too.

I like the look of the KTM ones, they had some Touratwat ones fitted in the showroom and it was as wide as a bus, what makes the KTM ones so bad?

I don't think they are that bad................not as good as my old Varios though which IMO are as good as hard paniers get.

My KTM ones are waterproof (some say theirs aren't?) and are big enough to be paracticle. I have the KTM bags which makes the set up more practicle still.
They attach and remove from the bike easily and there are no frames on the bike once removed. It's subjective but whilst they ain't lookers I think they suit the bike well.

The worst feature are the locks/catches that need a bit of a whack sometimes to get them to close properly.

I concur with Andres that the BM panniers were better. These are ok - 7/10 I'd say. What I wouldn't want to do is any gentle off roading with them. I just wonder whether they'd rip themselves off at some point.

(I'll give mine 8/10 when they have Cato Fong on them ... :D)

OK so if i go for the KTM i will get the standard ones included.

there are several reports of them being un-openable due to dirt ingress. maybe more an off road thing, i'm not sure?

I certainly think that the locks are their Achilles heel. Whilst mine are 'ok' i've had to give 'em a thump on the top every now and then. They're certainly not snickety snick with a nice smooth action. I bought a baby can of lock lubricant the other day;

I'll give 'em a squirt and see if it helps ....

How wide are the standard boxes? Say, c/w with the bars? Are they (not asking anyone to rush into the garage with a tape measure!) wider than bm ones?

Seems so long ago now :D I can measure them if you need it .... it's no hardship .... :thumb2

I've also got the KTM bread bins and top box and agree with the points made already - mine don't leak, they are functional rather than aesthetic, the locking mechanisms need regular lube (the dealer stated such from the off, otherwise tendency to stick). They are not well suited to off-road exploits in my opinion. The lack of a rack is good if you don't tend to use the panniers on a daily/regular basis - I use top box only mainly for commuting purposes.

Wow! You've kept the Panzer Wagon too! I'm just curious really. The last time I took The Long Way Home from GB I had to filter through much of France and a long way around Antwerp as well. :-(

Not kept .... Part ex'd!! This was the goodbye / hello moment ....!

Are you at the Ace Cafe this Sunday Nutty ?
