I live near Gatwick but normally head down to Loomies at the weekend, got to ask what roads were you riding in the vid the lack of cages was noticeable you would have cat in hells chance of finding empty roads like that in Surrey.
Suppose you have not seen the population explosion that we have nearer London it really does take some enjoyment away. Anyway I normally head down to Loomies in search of better traffic free roads where would you go to from Loomies to escape the congestion

PS What the feck are 'cages' - I thought that term had died out in the 70's with MAG?!?!?!
Na not down here we cant escape the buggers, what with them and the team of Bradley Wiggins look a likes.
One of the reasons I now prefer slower bikes I have had ZZR's for years still have a 1400 but hardly use it, to frustrating riding on congested roads with the typical plonker at the front of a line of traffic doing 20 mph on an unrestricted road using the brakes on every bend, then the plonker comes up behind a queue of Bradley's and is to nervous to overtake
Repeat this every half a mile, now you know what a ride out is like at the weekend in most parts of the south from London to the coast.

1190 in for a service today (£260 FFS!!!) and I had a couple of hours on a 1290.
Nice! If I hung up my off road boots I'd definitely consider one. I liked the ergonomics, the whole 'fit' seemed very good at 6'1'', I thought the screen was excellent (Not too RT sterile, not too 1190R wind blasty), and of course the motor is a peach. Coming from the 1190R, the big difference was the feel in the front. Instantly ... Instantly, you notice that. Even though it's got a 19'' front (R 21'') it feels way more planted (an over used cliche!) than my skinny 90/90/21. That to me was the light and day aspect of the two bikes. That however, is all part and parcel of what the r is all about - if you want a bike that'll go off road, then you'll want a light front end that'll float over stuff, so I don't see it as a compromise on the r - it's doing what it's supposed to do.
So .. good road bike, very nice, not blisteringly quicker than my 1190 (yes quicker, but not like fuck me thats quicker!) but clearly a brilliant tool to devour Europe on ..![]()

The 1190 is surprisingly nimble off road for a big bike, but why would you want to make it bigger and heavier?What would be the advantage? I can't think of any other than a bigger fuel tank.
They said that about the GS/ GSA, but plenty of people take their GSA off road. Even me, occasionally!![]()
