1290 Super Duke test ride

SOON, when Chris sends me the last remaining part I can put the jigsaw together, it's fully farkled and looks stunning, but a 1290 is calling !

Look forward to seeing the pics of it built up, have to confess i think the current Multi is a great bike :green gri

Is that a standard 1290 or the GT that you could have this month ?

It's the GT, several dealers already have bikes, they landed this week AMS have sold all there's for this quarter but I've been offered one from another dealer.

That's interesting as I've been told they are all sold. For example Fowlers wanted 12 and are getting 2 !!!!

I know where there's an unsold one but if I told you and you bought it they wouldn't have a demo for me to 'run in' ;)

I've no plan to buy an expensive UK one.I'm waiting for mine to arrive VAT-free !

I've been thinking about that thing you said Melch, about getting back to a raw bike and sod all the extras that make it a Tourer/Sports Tourer/Adventure/Blah Blah Blah bike.............

It hit a nerve that did. One that's been buried for some time but has always been there, just below the surface. It's probably why I'm so pleased for you getting the SD.
All the big Katie's are good in their own way (my 1190R included) but there's something about the SD's that's so 'right' and more 'KTM' to me than any of the others...........

You've fucked with my head man, big time, I think you've turned me into Twizz :D

Anyway, in an attempt to get this thread back on track (i.e. about a 'proper' KTM), here's a gratuitous picture :)

plus 1 on that !

My next bike in a couple of years will be along the lines of the SD

Stick a ventura system on it or even just some Kriega US stuff and off you go touring on it

one of the reasons i like my 1190R so much, is that it feels like a *proper* motorbike to me. sure. it's got all the electronic bollocks on it, but i don't really notice it.

that SDR is even more *proper* :bow

Excellent stuff. Do bear in mind though, for all my misty eyed blatherings about getting back to the raw essence of motorcycling bollocks....the first time on a reasonably long motorway journey I will be kicking myself thinking 'oh for a decent screen, a comfier seat and a less extreme riding position. It'll still look the bollocks though :D

I will have to put a screen of sorts on it though I would imagine. It won't be a barn door affair though. The screens available are all pretty small and sporty, enough to take some pressure off the chest. I'd rather not of course but I reckon it will be a case of needs must. :beerjug:

I guess I'm regressing in as much as the bikes of my younger days consisted (for a period) of big ratty jap fours, motocross bars and noisy pipes. We didn't have screens or indeed decent luggage. Cheap throwovers and bin liners did the job. We managed perfectly well. Like you, maybe I'm having another mid life crisis. I think I've been having one since my early twenties to be honest and will hopefully carry on having them. :D

I found the SD without a screen to be a lot better then other bikes with screens ! Less buffeting and wind noise, tank range was good if your not holding the throttle to the stop, it's a great bike now, the first gen had a few issues but ktm sorted pretty quick, there's also no need to buy the Akro as there's a mod to remove the baffle from the bottom of the stock exhaust can thats easy to do with a dremel and cutting disc.

And ride it round and round my tiny island with a 30 mph limit everywhere or have to pay £££ to get off the poxy island when I want to change into second gear......Then when I come to sell it I will get less back also.

We know your vat free , you mention it most weeks. Maybe you should put it as your signature?? Save keep typing it out

But when I do pay £££ to get off my poxy island (as I am tomorrow to go to France for the HUGE sum of £84 return) I can go and enjoy the stunning roads and countryside, and considerate motorists, unlike the UK with the arseholes wearing their Polite hi viz jackets on the way to tesco .

But good idea about the signature.

Thanks Ding-Dong. I'll get the bike and try it without first. I've read other reports where people say it is ok without a screen. The SE version actually comes with an Akra slip on fitted.

Siiiiiighhhhhh!!!!!! Be still my beating heart.
