1290 Super Duke test ride

Don't ask Melch to judge visual acuity. The bugger didn't even see my nice helmet that was resting on his pillion seat as he sped off in a cloud of dust when we were in the badlands looking for adventure last September. :blast

You were like my damsel in distress Tricky. I had to heroically venture forth. Wasn't nothin' gonna stop me.

Just done 800 miles up to Dunked and back in 2 days on the XR accompanied by the mental SDr

I had a wee go and can confirm it is a fucking stupid and silly motorcycle. It is a proper laugh.

I can also confirm that it ran out of petrol 10 miles before the XR and eats tyres at a similar rate

i can confirm that if high MPG returns and long tyre life are your aims then the Super Duke is unlikely to meet your criteria. :augie

Apparently these get over 100MPG :D

To be very fair to it ( only because i love it mind you) we were touring at sensible ( but brisk) and it ran out of petrol at just under 190 miles which is far and away more than the the old 990 SDr managed.

We did 410 miles yesterday with only about 60 of it on motorway so it can be used sensibly

All the hype about its hooligan nature is somewhat unjust as i found it to be rather useable despite the madness that it has in it when wanted.

My mate claims that the handling is better although not as sharp or fast as the old one and is a bit softer and user friendly but way better as a package.

As for the tyres they look like 2- 2500 will see a rear out which is on par with my XR but who cares

Its usability and general good nature was a massive plus point for me. I've never been into sports bikes per se, due to the fact they are so focussed. The engines generally don't seem to smooth out until 3 figure speeds and are bloody uncomfortable to boot.

I was struck with the fact you could ride it quite normally in some comfort but when wanted it would make me squeal like a 12 year old girl at a One Direction concert.

My pal has not put a screen on his yet and that made it tough work for me once above 60 so the screen just for a little bit of deflection is a wise move IMO

I am still very jelous but I couldn't have it as my only bike

I couldn't have it as an only bike either. I also need something practical and understated. That's why I also have a KTM 350 exc-f 😀

Hey, Melchett, me ol' mucker :shout

When are you booked in to Hilltop?

:D

Andres

Well now Herr Munch...I was planning on picking your brains about that when I next see you. I thought it prudent to run it in first though and get the first service done etc etc. First service is a week on Saturday and I need to do another 100 miles before then. I'm going to a bloody music festival this weekend though (that'll be a fresh one!) Why, I don't bloody know. I'll have to get out a couple of evenings next week.

New ickle numberplate fitted today!! :blast New handlebars, new mirrors...it's looking badass. :D

Cool, it'll give us something to talk about other than how to best mutilate and dispose of Tricky's body :)

Next to bikes music is the drug so a festi doesn't sound tooooooooo bad a way to spend the weekend :bounce1

Glad to hear about the plate and stuff, bet it looks better for it!
Do the bars look like this?

Yet more poxy gratuitous pics. This time sporting this season's handlebar/mirror combo. Looking suitably moody with it's blacked out attitude. Black never goes out of fashion darhlings!!!

That looks great.:thumb

Is the Akra a full system or just the end can?
