12GSA Engine out of line

You seem unsure about things:

You must take the bike to a dealer - for safety and your own peace of mind:thumb2

Tried it already, seems to be fine

One quick way to put your mind at ease is using a length of string.

Take the string (need a buddy to help here) tie it around the front rear rim and run it back under the bike - do the same with the other end around the front of the rear rim.

Arrange it so the string is tight and the knot on each tyre is exactly in the centre of the tyres. This gives you a straight line down the centre of your bike (assuming you have someone holding the bike upright, steady and with the handlebars dead centre).

The string should run directly under the centre of the main engine block - best viewed from under the bike using the front of the engine case and rear of the engine case as a guide.

If there is any twisting this should show an out of alignment in one direction at the front and the reverse direction at the rear.

Best of luck with it!

Summit wrong with that advise then El Capitan...?:eek :thedummy

Takes 5 mins with a buddy - can be done on the centre stand but needs more care. And I suspect he like to have his mind put at ease (if it really is out of line - I'd sooner NOT ride it to the dealers).

Best of Luck (for sure for sure):aidan

Hahaha ive already done 170 miles on it since the crash ! :blast

I think there must be some greater tolerances, with it being designed for off-road. After all it's not a finely tuned highly strung sportsbike designed for nancy power rangers. Surely it's designed and built for tractor driving tossers that don't mind breaking bones and bikes every now and again. :rob

No mate, just playing... I was just thinking about going through the process and I found it funny....I had this vision of four guys, two with string one holding the bike up whilst the other is lying on his back under the bike his legs either side of the rear wheel looking up:D

It makes good sense- I agree:thumb2

I'd rather do it with four women :D

TBH I'm not sure what advise you are after here :nenau

You can look to see what's bent, you can tie bits of string to the wheels (heck, you could even run a plank up against the wheels) but you are never gonna really know for sure, there will always be a naggin doubt..............

If you really suspect that something is out of line then get somebody who knows what they are doing (a dealer?) to check it.

you're not serious.................are you

Good luck :thumb

Stonetown, I have never heard of a boxer engine twisting as you mention, people drop there bmw's regularly and even knock off the cylinder head covers, so we are talking of force, you didn't break anything.... so force does not seem so great.

better just get off to your local dealer and ask them to look at it. Frankly without giving us pictures we are all just sumissing.... now if you really want get bogged down then ask for an opinion on this site.... you will certainly get a basket of pictures... but all of little use if you could not give the full info in the first place... so off you go and get the good, or bad news from someone that is actually looking at you twisted bike.
