My bike's going in for an operation  7k on the clock and at the last service a couple of weeks ago they told me the gearbox seal was leaking oil:mad: I've had a good nosey around the bike since, and can't see any evidence of oil leaking out at all  anyway, it's a two day job  Anyone else had this...?

Yes.
1200GS 05, 27000 miles.
I was quoted £700. Clutch and coffee included.

Regards

Evidence is usually a smear of oil on the underside of the engine/gearbox connection, engine oil that is. Quite common problem, takes an experienced mechanic four hours to dismantle the rear of the bike, fit new seals and re-assemble, at least according to what Bahnstormers told me.

Two days seems a tad slow.

Warranty job?

Mine's just had its first birthday...

Sorry to hear that :( , but I guess on the bright side it's under warranty and someone else is paying.

Out of interest is it the input or the output seal?

well, got pissed last night :blast woke up late this morning, and missed my slot to get the bike in at Wiliams for the warranty work. I got a call from them when I was on my way..:blast had to re-book for a couple of weeks time..

How late is late? I can only assume you were very late if they couldn't still take the bike in and they'd allocated two days to do the repair:augie

could be worse , we are picking lord vaders bike up on saturday morning after having its 4th final drive fitted:eek, and gearbox seals and new rear disk:eek all within 38k:eek we did ask bmw if the could put a chain and sprockets on as they work out cheaper:D:D:D:D:D

Humm, mine was done in less than 2 hours... I was not around to see how much they took apart, but the definition of "experienced" is always a bit fluctuating:augie

Was about two hours late, but like you say, cos they keep the bike for two days I didn't think it would be a problem....hey ho

Mine's in next Monday for the same thing... 54 plate but still with BMW warranty ;)

reckon 4 or 5 hours to sort...
