12GSA high quality pics

May be worth a search on ebay for 70's boots & get some silver gary glitter platform boots .I am the other way new bikes to small for me bmw is just right :D

much better than a stock 1200, but i'm not sure about it yet...... ?

a bit too tonka toy maybe ?

a bit too humvee ?

are you going to feel a twat riding it to the shops ?

i was holding out for this and skipping from my 1100 right up to this - but i don't know - its sort of what i was expecting, but maybe a little too over the top.

I've only looked at it for 2 mins - i'll keep thinking.

I like it, but I think I will stay with my 12GS...

I like the pics of the 12GSA - I really do. It looks like it'll have presence. It looks shiny. It looks like it should be able to go round the world, and I may do that one day.

But for the moment, I'll stick to my 12GS - because (here's the funny thing) aside from the really big changes on the 12GS (tank, ally luggage, suspension) - most of the little stuff I have already sorted on my 12GS.

Enormous Fastway footpegs (superb, really. If you are still on stock pegs on the 12GS, you don't know what you're missing.) Crashbars and cylinderguards. Tall screen. Seat pad. Other bits and bobs that make long-distance riding more pleasant. Maybe even a Jerry for a little extra fuel.

If I could convince myself that I'd wear-our a pair of Contis on something other than tarmac, I'd have one like a shot. But I can't. Not yet.

Plus: I can take the luggage off my 12GS and happily filter through traffic. I am not sure I'd like to try that on the GSA.

Look carefully and see if you can see any signs of the snorkle!!

All I can see is the air intake on the side of the now-upright air box...there's certainly no intake on the naked view of the left hand side of the bike just above the cylinder where you'd see it on the vanilla 12gs/11xx.....

They've either just left it to suck in from that box   or it goes up towards the headstock and comes off with the tank, or I'm being thick.

:nenau

Good news for forders :thumb

I would have been quite happy with a standard 1200 if it rode well, the problem for me was the quality of the ride and not so much the look of the bike, if this new adventure rides like a standard 12 then nothing has really improved. I still think the 1150 GSA is a much better looking bike and the quality of the ride more than offsets the extra weight over the 1200.

I think whats hilarious is that all the non-Adv 1200's around are now the "basic" version according to the BMW document above :D

Kinda like an economy version or GS 'Lite' :P

There's a fine and noble history behind the 'basic' tag.........

I suspect they had that in mind to a degree when they used the word.....I doubt it was meant to be derogatory ;)

Well, IMHO it looks absolutely stunning. If I had the cash I’d stick a deposit down today. Can’t believe that BMW managed to keep the spy shots underwrap for so long. Looking forward to seeing it at the NEC and test riding one at some point soon:thumb

On the 1200, the air intake is on the right hand side, and it just clips onto the airbox (gripping the air filter in place in the process).

It looks to me like they've just unclipped the intake for that photo. However that doesn't tell us whether it bends upwards a bit more than the standard model, which as you say, would be good for forders :D

HIGHER RESOLUTION PICS NOW ONLINE

Each of the original pics was 5-6MB in size and I cropped and downsized them to 900 pixels wide, then subsampled to get to around 90kB each.

I've now reworked all the originals and uploaded a series of zip files. These contain pictures in their original size (over 3000 pixels wide), so plenty of detail to zoom into. They've been carefully downsampled to make them as small as possible (typically 500kB) without loosing detail.

Each of the zips is on a different server, so hopefully I won't get it in the neck from the service providers! Right click and choose 'save target' to download to your PC. You then need WinZip to extract the pics.

Have to agree with Tober on this one...how many are going to use the ADV for its intended purpose or is it just for the status!

Me thinks the lat'er.

Nik
so how many 1150ADVs are used for their intended purpose ? Also, who's to say what that intended purpose is - if the intended purpose is that the bike gets ridden, I guess everyone who rides one is using it properly.

Yeah - I think the 12GSA looks pretty good, but I lurve my std 1150GS and cannot justify a swap for quite some years to come. I don't feel short-changed either - the 1150 does it for me every time.

What`s it going to cost for a 12GSA with full pack then? To have one like Charlie is sitting on, bars, panniers etc etc Anyone have any guestimates? :) Got to start saving you see, looking forward to 2020 when I can buy one ;)

Exactly what's been going through my mind!

My 12 bought in March was listed at £8500, but, once I added panniers, ABS, heated grips, hand guards and rocker cover guards there wasn't a lot of change from £10500 - I have never spent so much money on anything in my life and am still working out ways to try and pay for it

So, if the GSA is £9500 list, then, what with there being more extras available, ohhhh I'd hazard a good £12000

Fine if you have that sort of disposable income, but, given that an XT600, GS650 etc is a more suitable bike for RTW hard to justify in my mind.

Still looks cool though :D

It's best to compare the price (and the weight) to that of a 12GS with cross-spoke wheels, engine bars, valve covers, larger screen and wide footpegs. I'm hoping the 'UK guide price' of £9500 includes ABS--this was standard on the initial model year for the 12GS.

How much of the additional 24kg is down to the heavier cross-spoke wheels and the standard engine bars? Where's the rest of the weight gain made up?

Tim

All this is making the Kawasaki ZZR1400 more attractive by the minute.
I guess if you are looking value for money, the 1200s are becoming less and less sensible.
