12GSA high quality pics

I second that... Thanks Zmeagol, great images and thanks for offering up the bandwidth for us to download the high res versions... well beyond the call of duty... :beerjug:

I still really like the look of the bike... In a few years once they've ironed out the issues and hype has settled I'll definitely consider one... although for my riding style and local riding conditions, the standard 12GS is exactly what the doctor ordered... putting another 33kg way above the center of gravity would spoil the party for me... plus if George W and his cronies keep at it much longer you'll need a second mortgage just to fill her up...

Not particularly good pics but here's some more to be going on with.....

They could have at least swept the floor!

Well i gotta say....

it nice to see that it has sparked a great debate. Cant remember that last time you lot posted so many replies in such a short space of time.

IMOHO, i quite like the look of it. Would i swap my 12 for it?.......Nah! Like Tobers says, too heavy, slow etc etc.
I do like the look of the side panniers though and the rear carrier, and am sure i could retro fit them to mine. Like the saet. Gotta be better than mine which i reckon is crap. The screen if feckin AWFUL. Nippys do much nicer ones. Quite like the sound of the on board computer.....now if i could get one of those on mine.....
Bigger foot rests...yeah, might go for those as well.

All in all, i reckon it they have done a good job, and it has moved the GS along the evolution scale nicely. Better than the too single minded HP.

Thanks to all those who posted pics...top bunch

What? No shots from underneath? Can the oil drain plug be accessed without removing the skid plate?

Stunning pics.
thank god i'm too short, if the low seat is higher than my 1150gsa low seat i got no chance! :thumb

You must be joking, it wouldn't be a BWM if it was that easy. You'll need a special tool as well......probably.

:D

What's wrong with you short people? It isn't size that matters ;)

Have a look at the guy in the middle. He won Paris-Dakar on a bike that's almost as high as himself.

yea.. but he needed the other two to get him on the bike :D

Leg over...........

I'm sure many of us will cock our leg over at the NEC. For me and my little legs it sounds like it will be to tall...........but hey, the only real advantage seems to be the tank size, which obviously means that some how they have found all sorts of nooks and crannies to store fuel :D ....... I mean where does this 465 mile range come from. My 1200 does about 200 miles to a tank at a push so an extra 13 litres will not double it, maybe 320 ish I reckon. The bike does look good in the pic's and it may be possible to just buy the bigger tank and side panels and then have them painted in a cool color, this might be the way i will go anyway. Just love the 1200 more and more, the seat is now comfy, the fastway footpegs great, just needs decent lights, I do feel the TT option coming on (unless Bigtrailbikrider is offering :bow ) and with the new Metal Mule frames and slim can being launched at the NEC I think i have a great bike. :clap

My 'all time record' so far is 281 miles (254 done with 27 showing to empty), but that was extremely relaxed burbling along in Brittany. BMW reckons the 12GS tank is 20 litres and the 12GSA is 33, so on that basis my 281 becomes 463, so the 465 miles claim does look achievable if not exactly typical.

However... after drilling the neck I can get 22.5 litres in my tank which messes up the above figures (281*33/22.5=412 miles). Or will I be able to get 34.5 litres in the 12GSA (281*34.5/22.5=430 miles).

But there's a limit to how long you want to spend at such slow speeds.

Give them a chance. The bike is four or five months away from first deliveries; what you've been looking at is a prototype (other than the standard 12GS features).

It's amazing how non-BMW owners are prepared to give a balanced viewpoint, yet owners of obsolete BMW models seem to spend their time looking for faults.

Tim

Most people hate change and prefer the security of what they already know and understand - it takes a while to get used to the new. However most do eventually accept change otherwise the horse and cart would still be the main form of transport!

What do you get without the caravan on the back? :dabone

250 is the first time I see the light, 280 before I fill and suspect you'll get replies with over 300.

How many litres can you add at the point it illuminates. From memory mine's about 24 litres. I added 29.4 litres last Sunday in Betws y Coed. At circa 10 miles per litre I was getting close, but still about 20 miles left. bnige

Just got back from the NEC. If your hoping to have a sit on it, you cant. Theres only one, and its on a revolving stand.

Thoughts.....

It looks better in the flesh than on the photos and doesnt look any bigger at the front than the current Adventure.

As someone previously said, some of the metalwork and bracketry is a bit nasty, especially how the fogs are attached and the pannier boxes, but I'm sure they will sort that out.

All in all, if it was a choice between 1150 and 1200 Adventures, I would buy the 1200. Given that I already own an 1150 Adventure theres nothing on it which would make me swop mine in today.

Had a sit on both the Buel and KTM too. I think the KTM would be a hoot if I did most riding solo, and the Buell feels more like a bigger version of their existing bikes than a trailie.... Both had 1970's switch gear which really put me off though

Thanks Zmeagol for some great pictures, it looks good but as said elsewhere why such a high seat, I now you tall guys will say more exclusive to you, but how many people really have a 36" inside leg more over how many will have the money to spend on this bike.

Also if the suspension has all this extra travel for off road why keep the crappy "basic" models skid plate?

IMHO this bike is designed for street presence which it has truely done. I will only change to this bike if BMW can supply it with the basic bikes suspension so it is a sensible height for me.

Else they can supply a "basic" with all the extra of the GSA but with more choice of colours.

And I have no doubt that a dealer somewhere would do it...

But comparing the two 12's together most of the additional height appears to be padding in the seat? or has my eye sight failed me?

Only if your quick?

Blimey, everytime I went near it, it was crawling with onlookers...

I spoke to the stands technical guy, and he knew abasolutely nothing about it...

He imagined that some of the more basic fitments could be retro fitted to my 1200GS, but reckoned they'd have a better idea on costs and suitability around February time... gonna have to postpone equipping my bike for my planned camping trip next year... How much notice does TT require on delivery of panniers these days... can I afford to wait util February considering I want to go away in May or June :D

We went up today and the stand was practically empty, real surprise. The guy I spoke to reckoned list price of £9600 for the GSA. If this is true, it compares quite well against the standard 1200GS which is £8715 and which doesn't include cross-spoke wheels £245 or the engine bars and valve covers (say, £300) which would bring the price up to £9260.

Other options are likely to be £795 for ABS, £195 for heated grips, £22 for clear lenses, £175 for anti theft alarm, £200 for aux lights.

I wasn't so impressed with the panniers. Maybe the production ones will look better. The top box is quite small.

Tim
