My LC GS is in for it's annual/6K service on 1/03/15. Price quoted is £185.00................. Which isn't to bad.

So knowing the next one needs to have valve clearances done and brake fluid changed etc etc, I enquired to what it would cost.

When I picked myself up from the floor, I asked him to repeat the price............................... £580.00 ! ! !

I did say that I wanted a service, not shares in BMW FFS !

So.................. does anyone know if the old BVM in Stroud is doing servicing, and are they any good ?

Just had a 12000k service on mine, £220 including rear brake pads at Roy Pidcock BMW, Nottingham. Great service, that also included collection and returned home when finished.

Which dealer quoted you £580 for a 12k service?

I paid £380 which included valve clearances. No brake fluid or pads replaced.

It seems some dealers do different things at different intervals.

Anyone know where I can find a BMW list of what gets done at which service interval ?

Checking the valve clearances is easy and therefore shouldn't cost much. It should only cost much more if they need to change shims which involves removing the cam of the valve/valves ship which needs to be changed. All dealers should follow the same requirements based on age/time since last service and mileage.

Dealers are normally very expensive so I do all my own and save a fortune.

Gargy,

BVM has reformed but focused on trials bikes.

Mike (head mechanic) has setup with Tim - http://www.stroudmc.co.uk/company.php

Absolutely superb - there are other threads on here about them.

i had similar issues with Cotswold a few years ago - oh dear!

Can recommend Mike and Tim, doing a sterling job and at a reasonable cost.

Tom

Now that sounds like a plan................. Cheers for the info. I'll contact them when the time comes round.

Give Dick Lovetts a call.
I had the 12k service do e on my GS WC and it was about half what you were quoted.
I think your local dealer has lost the plot completely.

Gargy,

Mike has worked on my hex head this year and bike felt so great afterwards.

Just about to change onto a WC.

Talking to Mike in the summer he hadn't started on WC's at that time, I really hope he can turn his hand (and magic) to the WCs.

I find this type of thread interesting, is the 12000 sevice between dealers like for like? I know the boys in Cotswold and it isn't a rip off centre. I know Tim and Mike and Mike is an excellent mechanic but in fairness their unit would cost a year what cotsworld costs a day to run.
I'm sure if you phone the guys from Cotsworld and ask them for a break down and other dealers for a breakdown I'd be interested if it was for the same. Service.
My brake fluid has only been changed once in the last 5 years.

Surely a 12k service can vary in price depending on what needs doing.? Due to the yearly services an previous mileage timings??

its the 12K mileage service. There are no other variables

It's a standard service schedule, as Jim has posted a link to in post #14, so there is no variation of work between dealers.

Totally agree David re cost of units between Cotswold and Mike/Tim. I guess it comes down to if you take your bike in for a mechanic to work on it or to enjoy a few hours in different values of buildings. Cotswold is a far more salubrious experience, but IMHO and experience I paid more and got less, including damage to my bike (which to their credit Cotswold sorted).

Its the old "you pays your money and takes your choice"

Not the same bike but I had the 18K service done on my K16 last Oct and that was £470 with full fluid change , valve check etc. and they have a lot more valves to check and a lot more fairing etc. to remove to gain access to the engine. BMW North Oxford.
