12k service, I was quoted £109 exc for front pads?! there must be alternatives

Just had the 12k service done (£260 inc) and was advised all pads nearing their limit - was quoted £109 plus VAT for the fronts alone!! :eek:

I will fit my own, how much are BMW pads (I didnt ask - I was in shock)? What pads do you recommend/where are you buying them?

Yeah, I've seen those, are they an accepted alternative to oe pads? Presumably wont affect the warranty?

Have you tried Motor works for a price,or even main dealer,sometimes not far away on price if you can get a bit of discount.
 
Try m&p they have an offer at the moment 2fronts and 1 rear for £32 JJH
 
Thanks guys, is there no particular brand to go for? The EBC organic look promising at £30 for two pairs. JJH, is that EBC you are referring to? I can't find that offer?

I dont know. I get a email from them every so often and that was in the last one also they are doing contintal 120/70/17 180/55/18 for £119 sport/touring sounds ok to me as I recently spent £205 on z8s. are they THAT much better? JJH
 
I bought the ebc hh pads. Didn't like them much, and was then warned off them due to disc wear issues. Sprung for the oems, and they instantly feel better.

Sure, they're not cheap, but I only ever bought one set for my last bike ( and it's next owner will get most of the benefit).

I bought some cheap tyres for a ZZR1100 many years ago, just to tide me over during spring before I fitted decent set for a Scotland tour.

On a rideout with some mates, I entered a nice 60mph bend in 4th, about 5,000rpm, opened it up a bit to pull out of the corner and the bike tried to go sideways, the suspension bottomed and the thing almost chucked me over the high-side, I was probably only saved by my slow reactions not being quick enough to f*** it right up before the bike settled on its own.

Always bought premium tyres ever since, how much is your life worth?

I suppose if you commute / ride very steadily it may be worth going down the cheap route, but even then I would rather have good grip over a small financial saving.

Continental tyres are a premium brand and I have had no issues with them when using them on my old K1200S.
