Where is the best place to take a 12v ignition on feed?
Or do I need to take an ignition signal and run a relay?

Obvious questions

Amperage required?

Location on bike ?

Delay after ignition turned off ?

If you want to avoid over-current problems (you haven't said what you're running), use a relay.
Wire the relay's actuation coil to the accessory plug + and -, then make a wiring run as follows:
Battery positive --> Appropriate fuse --> switched relay terminal 1 --> switched relay terminal 2 --> 12V accessory terminal 1 --> 12V accessory terminal 2 --> Earth point.

This will give you a handy 10-second delay after switching off the ignition, before power is cut off.

Fuseblock under the rider's seat.

This is good for low draw or switched power. Cuts off 1 minute after the key is switched off.

Hi - the fuseblock under the riders seat contains 2 fuses - one of these is ignition switched - I think its the red/blue wire but a multimeter would be best to confirm. Use a feed from this wire - simple soldered splice would do - to switch a fused relay - mine is 20 amp. Connect the relay to the battery live and earth - you dont need a fuse as the relay is fused - and use the relay output to power your various devices. This solution cost sabout £10 per bike and works perfectly every time - maximum output is determined by the fuse fitted to the relay and the battery. Dead easy - cheap and 100% effective!

Thanks for all the replies lads. I'm just powering an auxiliary power point with a couple of USB outputs. So I think Recklesses solution fits best as the USBs are under the back seat.

There is room next to the 2-fuse holder to fit the smaller fused relay - I slung a tiewrap around the two to keep the relay in position. I ran the cables to the battery under th etank - no need to remove it - just wiggle them and they will appear close to the battery. Otherwise, a 20 min job.
