Not really a GS question but I know there's a lot of GS riders out there who use heated kit and some that know which end of a soldering iron to get hold of so I'll go ahead all the same at the risk of being shot down for posting this in the wrong spot. :hide

Here's the thing.. the plug on my heated vest is separating from it's cable it's the molded on type so a bit tricky to just pull off and resolder, (though I may attempt this at some point as I reckon I could maybe slice away and then rebuild the waterproofing with some milliput or similar) but the favorite option would be just to source a new plug and install that. The plug type is 2.5mm inner 5.5mm outer diameter by about 9.5mm long ("coax").

This size of plug is widely available on ebay and from the usual components suppliers and also commonly used on heated kit. However, as my missus kindly points out from time to time, "size isn't everything". In this instance it's amps that are the sticking point.

The ones on ebay and at Farnell and Maplins and RS and so on mostly seem to be of low capacity eg. 1 or 2 amps intended for extending CCTV power and/or other low current applications. Whereas the ones you see on the splitters and the jackets and the gloves and wotnot all look somewhat more chunky and are often rated around 5/7/10amps and higher.

So where can one source the higher rated plugs that the manufacturers are using?

30 seconds searching on eBay!

Item 230784474744 - 16 amp rating.

I don't think that's the plug type I'm talking about - hard to tell from the piccy.

Here's an example of what my ebay searches are coming up with

Ebay Item 170903861889

No rating listed for that one (as for many tens/hundreds of others), but looks a bit dinky to be anything more than about 2 amp tho I could be wrong.

Here's a listing for a 5amp from RS but it's showing as out of stock..

And here's a heat controller sporting exactly the sort of plug I'm on about
