Hi all,

A question for any electronic experts out there. I have just bought an iRiver mp3 player, but I want to run it directly off the bike. There is no lead available from the manufacturer, but I have a Sony lead which drops the voltage from 12 to 4.5. The player needs 5volts-is this lead safe to use? The sony lead came off an old discman which was not rechargeable-does this make a differance? I don't want to plug it in and blow it up! Any help and advice appreciated. The only other option is to recharge it through the usb port, but you can't use it while it's charging.

Thanks in anticipation, Martin.

I think you should be OK with the 4.5V, but you can get variable 12V adaptors like this one from Maplins.

Thanks for reply-have just found the genuine iRiver lead on the American site, but it doesn't seem to be available in Europe. Typical!
Is the current as important as the voltage? The mains charger has 5v/2amp on it, whereas the Sony lead has 4.5v/800mA on it? Does this mean that the current would be insufficient?

I see that even the iRiver manual says 5v, 2A - but really don't believe that the unit would draw down 10 watts.

Personally, I'd try it with the 800mA Sony unit you've got. If it's not up to the job, it's unlikely to screw your iRiver.

What's perhaps more important is that the output voltage is stabilised - the Sony should be OK, but check carefully if you decide to go the Maplins route.

Greg

PS An after-thought - maybe it does need 2 amps when you rewind the tape! ;)

Which IRiver player do you have? I've got an IHP 120, cracking bit of kit. How much is the 12v adapter in the US?

I have an H320, bought from the States off e-bay-seems pretty cool, although I think the U.S model differs slightly from the international model, though not in any ways that it's going to bother me. Check out www.mistiriver.net for info, and www.iriveramerica.com for stuff. The 12v car lead is $19 or so ( so if it's ever available in England, about double that! ).

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a H320 also and want to use it to store photos from my digital camera (Sony Cybershot). I have borrowed my brothers H320 and it doesnt recognise the Sony camera. I have thought about getting a card reader but have also heard not all of them are compatiblewith the 320. Can anyone recommend a card reader that does work?

Thanks
