1300 GS engine replacement

So what would YOU actually do with this information?
And how would this information be used to benefit the OP?
worry about the one I have or thank goodness mine might be OK !

the only reason to go on forums and contribute should be to share, learn, or help others.....

likely connected - bike has sat (with a fuel additive in 5% ethanol death fuel) for a few months - got back and decided to move the ring ridge (ruined coating where the rings once sat), one pot has compression from hell (just managed to turn engine via back wheel in 6th gear, had to wait a few seconds for pressure to decline before could get it over TDC - the other pot a 3 year old could have moved it

I think my engine is fine….although I think that’s the only part of a 1300 that I haven’t had renewed!

I bought a '73 last August that had done 1100 miles from new but it had a brand new engine fitted before I bought it. #I had to do the running in.
Mine is in a dealer as we speak having a new engine fitted but went in initially for a gear selector fault 4 times.
When they put it back together it sounded like a bucket of nails and had piston wear?? Engine build date 12/23.

You'll have to get your V5C updated.
I had to chase my dealer to send all the paperwork to DVLA and they took 2 months to do it! It's been 3 months since DVLA received all the info. and I still don't have my V5C and I phone them every month.

usually BMW stamp the same number on the new engine - they are so proficient at building junk they know how to mask it...

12 months ago - factory used the wrong torque when tightening the conrods

If dealers are being told to check bores with a scope as part of the service schedule there must be a known issue whether it be due to a production quality fault or something like over fuelling washing the bores .

Whatever the cause of the problem BMW should be open regarding the issue although they probably will not be . Last thing an owner needs to find out when they are getting a service a couple of weeks before going on holiday or having the bike sitting at a dealers awaiting a motor for the 2 weeks of sun we get a year in this country

Bottom line - VERY pleased ( after 5 1200 GS bikes ) to have dumped the brand , and gone back to Japanese quality control 👍
Don't count your chickens.
Honda have just issued a recall affecting two of their engines due to excessive oil consumption......
