Here we go again with no insurance quotes for the new R1300GS TE ASA. I've ordered a new ASA 1300gs and just phoned Bennetts who I'm with now for my current R1300GS TE. They have the ASA model on their systems but no quotes come back when they input details.
I had this same problem last year with the new 1300gs and also the first 1250gs. Why don't BMW and the insurance companies get their acts together when a new model comes so people can insure them!!.
Eventually they sort themselves out but last time it took a few months. My existing companies in the past have given me the "choice" of cancelling my existing policy, sometimes they even make what they see as a marvelous offer of waiving the cancellation fee :) .

Has anyone else ordered the new R1300gs ASA models ? either GS or GSA and had any success with getting insurance?.

1300 GSA quote (no ASA) …all good, for me anyway.

TD
The 1300GS is no problem , it's the ASA version that they won't quote on.
I have just tried motorvision but they don't give a quote on the 1300GS ASA, be interesting to see if you get a quote if you change yours to the GSA ASA model??.

I've been doing more searching and the crazy thing is that BMW Motorrad give an online quote on the 1300gs ASA and it's with Aegas. Guess who my existing 1300gs is with through Bennetts ---- yep, Aegas . What's going on. Why can't Bennetts give a quote, I did phone them and they tried but just said my existing company (Aegas) wasn't quoting!. Someone has their knickers in a twist somewhere.
I'll wait until the new bike is here (end of October) and hope they've sorted their systems out by then.

Not just BMW, had the the same issue with my Indian. Had to cancel existing policy I had on the BMW as the company would not quote to change bikes. Dealer advised me to try Indians own provider, which turned out to be a bargain, with European breakdown cover included. So actually worked out better for me.

I tried to insure a new R1300GSA last week, On a comparison site. Nothing. Nada, Zero. I just put it down to That model now being available yet.

as a follow up to this -- I have been playing with the figures and find that if I reduce the bike value to £19999 I can get quotes from several insurers on comparison sites, including my existing insurer Bennetts. Bennetts couldn't give me a quote when I phoned them but again I presume it's because of the high value. I'm not sure where I stand if I put a lower value but as it stands there's no choice. I'd be OK to take the hit if the worst happened and lose £3k over the new price. I'll wait and see if they'll just do a change of vehicle when I get the reg number for the new one & put down the lower value.

Ha, no, cannot order as my premium goes from £4k a year (granted for 4 bikes) to about 12. Yes that £8k difference to add the new gsa.

Dear me,

I had an email from the bike insurer yesterday as they thought the insurance was due on my 1250RS SE I bought new at the end of last year (I'd used their site to get some quotes to see if my current insurer IAM Surity were going to be competitive when my bike finally arrived after being held up by the mothership). Cheapest quote is £165.01 with Hastings. Carry on.....

"Carry on...." Carry on what?, you've lost me ?

My understanding is, if you’ve “under-insured” - then you’ve misdeclared on your policy?
:nenau

if you’ve “under-insured” - then you’ve misdeclared on your policy?

I was going to point out the same.

I've done it on my HP2 Sport policies a few times, as the value (for an older bike) made it difficult to insure it, so I declared a lower value that I would have been happy to get (essentially a bit below what I paid it for - I used it, I'm happy for it to devalue) and I've been told the same at some point: it can be "misdeclaring", "void" and all that.

On the other hand, insurances tell you that, in the case they have to pay you back, they will value the vehicle according to market value + its conditions.

Then: why – the fuck – do you ask people to declare a value if you don't use it ayway?

Agree. 100% with all that….. 👍

In the event of a claim, I just see you setting yourself up for a shedload of hassle with The Damned.

Yes, I know it may be an issue but if noone will quote on an extra £2k in value of a new bike what are you supposed to do???.
Stupid thing is my existing 1300gs is insured for £22k. Now the same broker (Bennetts), can't quote on a new 1300gs ASA if you put £22k for an online quote. If you drop it to £19,999 you get a quote!.
When I phoned them it was the same answer, it's a case of "computer says NO".
Even asked if they could ask the insurance company to do a personal quote but that was a No too.
As others have said, is it under valuing a bike that even though you paid £23k to buy may only be worth sub £20k a month later if you part ex'd it ??.
I know some policies used to have a clause that they would replace in the first year with a new bike & therefore top price but don't think that's in the policy I have now.

Bit of a catch 22, don't buy a new bike or undervalue it and take the risk .

You will need to ring round, bike sure and bmw insurance (might have been devitts) gave me a quote for the 1300 'manual' when no one else would, bmw insurance had been told by underwriter to put the 1300 down as a 1250 on the policy, add a note to the policy, and would get in touch when the 1300 was on the system - and thats what happened.

The bike cannot be any bigger risk than a 1300 from an insurers perspective, virtually same bike, same power, looks the same.

Well how do people insure bikes like the H2R and those £40k+ Ducati’s then. It must be possible to insure a bike that’s half their value shirley? :nenau

You don't have to go that high in price.

When I say I had issues, over the years, in insuring the HP2 Sport: at 12k (for a 2011 bike) insurers would go by default to "no". One bod explained me that they have set cap limit prices for bike values and - on standard policies - anything that goes over is a hard no or super-high risk.

Declaring a value of 10k would let me have it insured almost normally.
I paid for the bike, a few years ago, used, 12k. 10k insured value for me was more than fair.
Those bikes can go higher than those prices (at least a few years ago it was the case) thus my 10k could have been misdeclaring and void insurance contract.
That is, pardon my French, bullshit. Don't ask the value.

One can ague that 2k less is not trying to deceive the insurance as you are not trying to insure the 40k Ducati for a value of 3k... but it's a gray area you might not want to be in, considering how strict motor insurers seems to be (when it's useful to them).
