1300GSA Puig Touring Screen

Hi,

I put a Puig Touring screen on my 1250GS, for long distance tours and was completely happy with it. Even in 40C heat, I was fine. It was so calm I could ride at motorway speeds with the visor fully open.

Unfortunately, the mounting holes for my old 1250 Puig screen do not line up for the 1300GSA. With the stock GSA ("touring") screen, even on its higher mounting holes, I still get some wind noise and buffeting on shoulders and arms. Not bad, but not as calm as my old GS. Puig now have a Touring screen for the 1300s and I'm tempted.

Has anyone fitted one / able to give a review, please?

Well, I ordered and have fitted the Puig Touring screen on my 1300GSA. There is improvement, but not as dramatic as it was on the 1250GS. Perhaps because the 1300s screen was already decent. I am looking for a set up that reduces fatigue on trips to see my baby grandson (Essex to Liverpool) and my parents in Bristol, as well as European tours. After a couple of hours I find wind noise tiresome. I also ride year round and wind protection massively improves my range in the cold and wet.

I have added a little MRA clip on, to the top of the Puig. This further smoothes out airflow, without being much above the top of the screen. All set up so that I still easily see the road ahead above the screen(s). I find up to nearly 60mph I have no wind in my face with the visor fully open. Above that, I am fine with the visor just cracked open. Wind noise is reduced, but on the 1250GS I could ride without earplugs, if I chose, it was so quiet. Not quite that quiet on the 1300. I still get wind on my shoulders and elbows, but it isn't turbulent. On the GS I used Wunderlich side wind deflectors. They do them for the GSA, but £129 and the GSA already has the BMW side deflectors, so not sure that would be a wise investment.

My conclusion: it is an improvement, not as dramatic as I was hoping, but I will go with this set up.

Totally agree with Martin I have had Puig on all my GS & GSA’s so naturally bought one straight away for the 1300 GS, I am 6’ 4” and found the screen gave poor protection and no matter where it was set still had buffeting. I have now changed it for the Givi high flow from nippy’s massive improvement.

Mine has the larger BMW screen fitted & the best wind protection I've ever had on a bike. At 6ft 2 I'm usually buffetted to bits.

But up to 60mph no wind at all, visor open no problems.

just got the bmw high touring screen and really impressed with it had it in the bottom holes and similar height to you and no buffeting

The BMW Touring screen wasn't bad, but I had wind noise, the airflow was noticeable but smooth, not buffeting (no pressure waves or vibration. Also it gave me quite a bit of airflow on my arms and shoulders. I also ride naked bikes and enjoy being in the elements, but no longer for long distance touring. What I've found is as soon as you introduce fairings or screens, unless you 'tune' the airflow, wind noise can be dramatically increased, even compared to naked bikes. Probably because the airflow gets concentrated into particular areas near the rider's head.

Like seats and handlebars, there's rarely a solution that fits everyone. I once test rode a demo Harley Road King, with the huge vertical screen above the headlight. I got so much buffeting vibration I couldn't read speed limit road signs above 60mph! The sales guy said I was the first to ever complain about that.

Had a lovely run out on the GSA this evening and am happy with the Puig / MRA solution. I think those deflectors screens look a bit crap, but I suppose it matches the function over form nature of the bike!
