15% DISCOUNT ON CASTROL OIL

good post chap... but they're all 'motorcycle oils' and so any discount you get will be offset by the inflated prices...

motorcycle oils are a waste of money on the GS. you're paying extra for additives the bikes just do not need.

You are so right.
Basic 20W-50 mineral oil is best.

free oil changes

I've just managed to aquire quite legally 15 bottles of fully synthetic 20/50 Amsoil off a mate in the trade for a quid a quart, the stuff normally retails at around £12 a quart, I sold some very cheap to a friend to cover my costs, so now my oil changes for next three years are free, yippee.

Thats clever - so when you buy your next oil in three years time at £20 a litre , the oil you sold to your friend will seem like you paid him to take it. :D

ooops, yer right there :( but I had to do my pal the favour as he was desperate for the stuff for his Guzzi.
But surely oil prices will have dropped in a few years, won't they? :D

Thanks for the link mate.

Notwithstanding the comments about bike oil rip-offs, this has saved me a packed compared to BMW dealer prices.

10 litres (to share with a mate) comes out at £55 delivered, compared to £90 for the same amount from the shop, so I'm happy :thumb2

I think you missed my point there chap... it wasn't that bike oil is a rip off - it's that paying the extra for bike oil for a GS is a waste of money

These bikes are two wheeled cars - so using fancy bike oil - when all the bike needs is a decent 'car' oil is you wasting money - not being ripped off.

Again you are so right. :beerjug::beerjug::beerjug:
Good expression, "two wheeled cars" in construction and engine.
But a lot more fun for riding.

Engine with 3.75 l oil volume ( 20W-50 is the best ), dry clutch and gear box with separate oil ( 80W-90 oil). No need to use any of ( expensive ) "motor cycle oils",

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't most dedicated "motorcycle oils" aimed at those machines where the engine and gearbox share the same lubrication reservoir? So the oil has a much harder job to do - coping with the shear in the gearbox rather than just splashing around a couple of plain bearings.......

BUT, I have heard people say they get much better MPG by using Mobile 1 in the engine.

What about the gearbox itself, is a lighter, fully synthetic goo going to save a couple of hundred yards per tankful in friction?

At the rate the fuel is going up, it will be cheaper to run the thing on whisky.....and inhale the exhaust fumes!
