16Gb SD Micro Cards not working with 4.2?

Just back from Leicester today - around 450 miles with my Zumo - having upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2 on Monday all was well initially but today the unit in the bike mount just kept freezing and would not select the right riding icons - at one point a new splash screen came up asking for me to verify my country... I removed the 16gb card and amazingly upon restarting the 660 was performing as well as before but now I have no music. Has anyone else had this problem, I did not try my 8gb card but dropped Garmin a support email tonight - lets see what they say?

Interesting... I noticed that for version 4.2 Garmin also released a small patch yesterday which I downloaded last night - going to test it for a bit and see what happens.

My Zumo 660 works fine with a 16 bit card.

I have noticed that occasionally the GPSR does not recognize the card when I put it in the device. I suspect this might have something to do with the very tiny size of the card and the possibility that a very slight mis-alignment of the card - or not quite getting it 'perfectly' seated in the card-holder slot - could be enough to cause the card to not connect properly.

On a couple of occasions, I have removed the card from the device to add data, and the device has not recognized the card when I put it back in. After some fooling around and frustration, I learned that the fix for this is to just remove and re-seat the card. Once the device does recognize the card, there are no further problems.

So... just try removing and re-seating the little card.

Music issue

I updated to the latest software and now have all sorts of issues. The main one being I can't listen to music. I have two bikes. On the GS I have the BMW cradle, after the update I had to pair the devices again and now it works but some icons are missing. On my other bike i have the garmin cradle and since the update I can't get the music player to come on it keeps saying no headphones or ad2p bluetooth device connected. it worked fine before and as it is hard wired to the bike and connected via Autocom it shouldn't need anything else. I am so close to selling this box. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?.

Where did you find the patch? I've just checked on WebUpdater and it says that mine's up to date.

Garmin advised me that if you downloaded 4.2 after 16th May 2011 the patch was included. Early adopters of 4.2 needed the patch which was released before that date.

That is interesting - I downloaded later than you yet had to install the small patch. Garmin advised I downgrade to an earlier version of the software then reload 4.2 which I have now done and the fault seems to be fixed.

Top tip that Michael.

I too had installed a 16GB card into a BMW Nav IV (660 clone) but when trying to share a route was getting an error message on the device. The error message read:

Unable to write to memory card. Check it is not full or write protected.

As it was neither I was stumped..... Until I saw your post.

Hi Wapping:

I've had the same problem with micro SD cards and my Blackberry. This has led me to the conclusion that I think the manufacturers of these tiny little storage devices have pretty much reached the smallest size that is practical... I don't even consider the micro cards to be 'portable' storage any more: I just put them into the device, pray that they work, and if they do work, I never remove them again.
