Open primarily to Big Trailies, GSs and the like.

This will be novice friendly, but will contain some muddy patches and some fords and the like. There will be easy routes around the harder stuff tho. All will however be easily ridden on a big trailie with a half competent and confident rider on board tho. Newbies will be more than welcome and looked after, just come with a "have a go" attitude and you will be fine.
I would recommend using TKCs or similar not road biased rubber tho.

Meet @ Solstice Park, Amesbury ready for a 09:30 start.
http://www.solsticepark.com/travel/travel.html

Please fill up* before hand.
(*= You might want to consider just how full you need to be if you own a bike with a large tank. It all adds to the weight you have to balance/pick up when you don't. I use less than one 8l tank on the 450 doing this route)

I plan to pretty much stick to the normal marker system, so please take a look here:
Rideout Etiquette
Also PLEASE take a look at http://www.trf.org.uk/code-of-conduct/85-code-of-conduct.html#uvrow and note the TRF code of conduct.

I can't really tell you too much about the route/distance etc, as I plan to cuff it, according to how well people are doing.
What I can tell you is, the trail WILL have the odd slippery/sandy/muddy patch, but if everyone looks out for each other they won't present anything more than a "challenge" to your mind. They aren't too difficult and unless you get it WAY wrong and end up in the trees:o, shouldn't be bike damaging if you do get it wrong.:)
That said, if people are finding it too easy/hard, I can alter to suit.
Suck it and see as they say.

Above all, the day is yours to enjoy, but please, not at the expense of other countryside users.

Count me in...

Just had TKC's fitted and want to give them a go on something more challenging than tarmac! Have no real experience off road other than a weekend course in Wales but happy to give anything a go.

Look forward to meeting up and having some muddy fun:thumb2.

Cheers

This weekend is also the Llangollen weekend, so like me, some people that may have come along are off to Wales instead. Might come on one of the rides later in the year.

Sure. As I said in the off road forum it's not a problem, but if people let me know they are interested but can't make it I don't just think there's no interest and not bother jacking any more days up.

16th still on?

I am still up for this. Pls let me know if you plan to postpone.
Also, which OS maps cover the areas for this ride?

Deffo won't be postponing chap. :)

Mainly landranger sheet 184 but maybe onto the edges of 173/174 and 185 too I guess.:nenau

Thanks for leading the ride

Adam

A quick note to say thanks for leading the big bike ride yesterday. I had great fun despite struggling a bit in the mud and my wornout TKCs.
Thanks also to ScottJohn and 'local boy' (name gone, sorry).
Fantastic trails. I hope to join you next time on something lighter...
Cheers - Hugo

The route if anyone is tempted. :)

I was wondering what all the noise was yesterday ;) didnt realise it was you lot buzzying past my doorstep :D

If I'd known you where going to be that close I'd have pitched up even at that late notice. So what are the lanes line around Boscome? I know the stuff between here and Bulford pretty well.

The one to the west of the airfield is doable on road tyres.
The one from the east up to Shipton Bellinger is quite overgrown at the mo so a bit of a challenge on bigger bikes but if you take your time nothing too drastic.

And you can always have a play in the Winterbourne fords between them. :augie

Then the ones a bit further south on the roman road salisbury to winchester are good but slippery as they are chalky.

Cheers Adam, I'll have to go have a noisey next time I'm out for a play :)

Fancy boots Craig???

Don't get your fancy boots to dirty!! :D

:thumb2

I don't mate. They are only used on the road. I use my old Oxtars off road. Good job too as someone who shall remain nameless had me up to my knees in freezing cold water on Sat when he bogged down in the gravel base of a ford and Hugo and me had to wade in to push him out.:augie

OK it was Milk Tray Man.:D

Oi...what happened to what goes on tour stays on tour!!

Sorry for the delay in posting thanks to Adam and his support crew for a great day out on Saturday. As the self designated fall guy for the day I would also say a big thank you to Scottish John who spent most of his time picking me and my bike up (hope you got some pictures:blast). I would have posted sooner but have been flat out on the couch in the recovery position getting liberally pasted in Arnica cream.

Hugo, good to meet you and thanks for walking into the ford to help me out. Noticed that you took the lead whilst our illustrious leader freted about wet feet. Don’t know about you but it wasn’t that cold:eek:

What did I learn... firstly let some air out as riding off road with road pressure in your tyres makes for an exciting if ultimately painful experience. Secondly get good protection (see other threads on this) as mine certainly saved me from more painful experiences on Saturday. Thirdly whilst the 1150 is more capable off road than I will ever be I am going to buy a little trail bike before going off road again. It’s just too damn heavy. Finally if you have ever wanted to have a go then do it because it is just such good fun. I am still smiling (may occasionally be a grimace as I try stand up), the bike took the knocks very well, those things that did break are all fixable and at the end of the day it’s a bike not the crown jewels.

Thanks again guys and hopefully will be back but on a smaller bike.
