16th May 2009 - Wiltshire Green Lane Rideout - Big trailie friendly

Glad you enjoyed yourself chap.:thumb2

It's deffo more fun on a smaller bike.
Get yersen a DRZ like Jon's.
The perfect green laner tbh.

Especially for Milktrayman. To be fair, he didn't really fall off much more than the rest of us, it's just that due to the order we were riding in he tended to do it infront of the camera.

As usual, if anyone wants a hi-res version or the original video files drop me a Pm and I'll pop a DVD in the post.

Cheers Jon...did wonder why you always seemed to be at my side. I thought it was out of concern and care for a fellow tosser but really all you wanted was me to fall of for you! Just as well I was so happy to oblige again and again and again. Now when can I expect the royalty cheques?

Don't knock it MTM, I'm just seriously impressed that you are curtious enough to remember to turn your hazard lights on before you depart the bike, that is style ;)

trouble is around here on wet chalk you really do have your work cut out for you on a big trailie, you did well by the looks of it.

LOL yeah I did have a little chickle at his hazards coming on. :D

I pretty much avoided chalk but for the one hill.
The biggest problem was mud clogging the tread and not getting shed froom the tyre.
That and not the greatest tread depth in the world.

The guys did good tho. :)

Just got back from riding something similar to this route (it wasnt cos I ended up riding across the golf course :augie - well I stopped to check direction as and asked a golfer and he said it was ok )

I did end up adlibing a fair bit, but I think I got that route around the airfield... but where was the water crossing? I didnt come across anything that looked like that :blast

I did find the Kiwi though :) and I did get chased by two doberman pinchers, one gave up when i opened the throttle, the other stuck with me through a rutted section, only to turn and run when I stopped and barked at it :aidan

Lovely day out there, only saw one other trailie (twice)

On the back of E/F (?) range on Bulford Ranges mate. Like a lot of the rivers 9in Wilts and Hants tho it's a winterbourne tho, so might be dry at the mo.

that might explain it, I think I found the route you took through the back of the range, but the gate was padlocked, I ended up following a tank crossing route a bit higher up so probably missed the water completely, nice loop though :)

If you want some water to play in, try these:
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=bu...rmation&loc=GB:51.20368:-1.72888:17|bulford| (not strictly legal but its only a couple of meters off the byway.;))
Here:
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=bu...ormation&loc=GB:51.20661:-1.72555:17|bulford| (it IS a byway now, not bridleway as OS maps show it, as is the "bridleway" that carries on SW parallel to the road behind Bulford Camp - a top track ;))
Here is the ford I was on about earlier:
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=bu...ormation&loc=GB:51.22595:-1.71355:16|bulford|
Any of the tracks that cross nine mile river will have fords when the water is flowing. Not all are strictly legal tho. ;)

The fords at Winterbourne Dauntsey are great fun:

And

and at Gomeldon:

they are great all year round tho can get a tad deep. Give them a GOOD recce before you try them.

Then if you are feeling brave on a wet winters day, try these three spots (and the tracks joining them up)
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=bulford&countryCode=GB#map=51.18634,-1.98612|15|4&dp=os&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:51.18446:-1.99131:15|bulford|

Not fords, just where water accumulates in the dips, but great fun none the less...
Again, GOOD recce, and you will need a long stick for these ones as they are muddy so you won't be able to see how deep they are. Top fun tho.:D
There's loads more water about there as I'm sure you know, but they are some of my favourite places to play in it.

Oh, I was talking to a mountain biking mate about bikehike and he told me to send you this :) http://bikeroutetoaster.com/ I can't get access at the mo, but apparently there's loads of interest on there :)

Not forgotten this weekend, just got a fair bit to get done here before 1st Sept, will give you a shout
