17" sports wheels on a 1200gs

alloys

handles like a sports bike, what the f**k? ive got alloys on my 1150gs,decent springs etc k/n, power commanda etc remus, etc ,a gs is a gs not a sports bike,i use my b/king for that kinda stuff.:augie:augie:augie

Fook me pull the man apart why not:( if he wants to stick sports wheels on his gs than fair doo's, dont listern to the anoraks on here telling you to get a sports bike or a R6 !! how many sports bikes can do 210 miles on a tank and be able to sit in the saddle all day.

Ive done it and WHY because i can and i wanted too and its my fooking money and ill spend it how i like, the tyre sizes give more confidence even in the wet and i can chase down sportsbikes in the twisties i sit on there chuff without even breaking a sweat after a couple miles when they start sweating they just let me pass however not all, there are some talanted guys and x-plod that can really ride regardless what bike there on:thumb

6inch rim 190 tyre no chicken strips on these !!

And before the Anoraks tell me to get a sports bike, i have its faster than fast

This German rider's R1150GS bike was in fact customised with R1200RT wheels! 17" 180 wide rear tyres and 17" 120 wide front tyre! Also engine power uprated to 120BHP if you read earlier message!

I will leave my 10 GSA on EXP's they suit the touring role its used for and its nice to be able to do the odd trail.
I too came from the ZX12R had 3 of them and covered all of Europe quickly. The king of the Nurburgring but not good on trackdays, it was really hard to stop due to the weight, gave me some hair raising moments waiting for it to stop at the end of the back straight at Jerez. The gearing was also wrong for track.
This one was tuned and fast as F. I always found 1000 sports bikes dissapointing on the road due to the lack low down power but plenty quick once over 5000 revs.
The ZX has magnificent handling though, I was able to scrape the LH engine on the deck with on good tyres.
I do faster laps with my 05 GS at mondello Park than i did with the ZX

My GS is light and suits the 17" wheels, there is a loss of ground clearance which could be a problem on a fully loaded GSA. The choice of tyres is huge with the 17" wheels.
I have BSB tyres and nothing will upset them, this is easy and controlled, i just have to watch the ground clearance, if i scaped somthing solid i would be off. I feel with my ceramic toe slider then the peg then my knee and thats it no more lean.
I think properly set up Ohlins would result is some decent lap times.
I dont think the tyres would last more than 1000 miles.
The knee sliders are crap and heading for the bin.

patzx12, :beerjug: great pics

I agree with ground clearance and pegs do touch down but some peeps will never corner that hard :D i ride with the balls of my feet on pegs and i feel my toes touch down and what ive found to overcome this slightly is with esa i dial in single rider sport with luggage and my toes dont touch quite as often.

I have triple black with standard wheels and with full luggage and the wife on board I touch down with the pegs on a regular basis, I find the grip very good after comming from a sports bike.
Just in the last week of 3,000 mile trip round Spain, France lots of pics and GoPro videos will post on my return.
