dear all,

another kind of ignorant question from yourstruly.

planning my summer trip with my HP2,

and not sure which wheel set up I should use..,

My route takes me through some motorway miles up to the Czech republic and then after that would be smaller tarmac mostly routes down to turkey and back via greece.

I expect to go through bad roads and some hard packed non tarmac stuff

and I would ideally prefer to use the 21'. (with some dual sport tyres, metz tourance - may be!?)

but would a 21' front give that not planted feeling when cruising at 80-90 on the motorway - plus smaller disk brake which means less stopping power if needed?

has anyone tried both a 17 and a 21 on motorway miles?

your views are welcome,

cheers

which wheels

I have both sets and have gone thousands of miles on both. This year I,m going on the dirt set up but not with knobbies. I'll go with a dualsport tire. I prefer the feel of a dirt bike. Just go with what you like the most. Richard.

I haven't tried dual sport tyres on the 21" wheels on the HP2... but I have ridden on gravel on the SM wheels and it was not funny!

I have also toured on my Dakar running TKCs which has a 21" front wheel and there was no problem at all. If you travelling around and want to even consider some trails, it would have to be the 21" front for me.

I have an option for you............go in between!
I am running a 19" front with road attacks for my daily work run and then switch back to the originals 21" when in the dirty stuff.
I haven't done any motorway miles (why would you, if you can avoid it) but plenty of A and B roads at decent enough speeds.
Only 1 up with a 51 litre Ventura pack nearly full of stuff and it goes well.
I picked up some GS ADV wheels and they fitted whitout any problems.
