170 BHP

Brilliant... a reason to save, at last! :thumb2 (though I didn't see a price anywhere)

More stuff here http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/167bhp-twin-turbo-bmw-r1200gs/19582.html

Turbo lag?
Poor ground clearance?
Noise from the tiny inlets?
What about cooling air getting the the cylinders and intercoolers?

AND according to the discussion, the crankshaft wont cope with more than 150bhp.

How about this  http://www.maxbmw.com/r1270/index.html

Most of us already have aftermarket pipes and we know about Hilltop for sorting out that wonky power curve. So whack in the big bore cylinders and fancy filter :D

I think I would be forever waiting for the final drive to implode

...and the bike still weighs over 200 kgs, to which has to be added the weight of 'bling', panniers (essential for added presence), Tosser and (on the odd occasions it does get used) fuel.

All this crap about wanting to make the GS faster, why not enjoy the bike for what it is, if you need the speed go buy
a hayabusa and be done with it. GS, there not build for speed , SPORT BIKES are.

I think you miss the point about the twin turbo, polished con rods, tricked-up ECU's on a 1200, Robbie boy.

They are done for only one reason.... Because they can be done, most usually as nothing more than an advertising hook for a company's other engineering services. A bait that seems to have at least attracted some open mouths.

Nobody with half a brain is going to build one or (more likely) pay to have one built to use on the road for a protracted period of time. But as a one-off, sprint fun in some bizarre class or other, or just to stand at the Motorcycle Show in Brum or Little Rock, AK for bods to gawp at, slack jawed in wonder, it's quite OK. Now relax and work out how to get that extra 10cc of oil into your topbox before you go to Tesco and buy soft fruits.... Or devote even more time to worrying about the potential faults with YOUR bike, which you now apparently regret buying.

I think your missing the point, the GS isn`t the bike to be doing all the mods to, stick all the MODS onto a sports bike where
it can all be appreciated and worth while, and will actually look good and run well, even if its only for the open mouthed
dreamers at the NECC.

I think you missed the point for a second time.

Because the GS isn't the bike to be doing this to, actually makes it the bike to be doing this to! The reason the exercise wasn't carried out on a hyper rocket is most likely because that would be expected , it would be the obvious choice. The mods to a GS would open mouths, drop jaws and get chins wagging, the same work on a GSXR would barely get a second glance.

Modding a gs so it will beat a hyabusa would be awsome, out corner them and leave them for dust wheelying down the straights, by the time the hyabusa's gearing makes the difference it will be silly speeds!

I MUST DISAGREE i think it would look ugly and be a wast of time and money,
the picture of the turbo fitted looks stupid, so why do it ?, im my humble opinion,
to me all mods should enhance the performance and the look.

theres certainly not many modified prod bikes where you might be able to get one turbo fitted per cylinder (excluding singles) - in that sense it does hit the button for being novel, maybe even unique? (someone will prove me wrong!)

certainly do well on a drag strip maybe, assuming the drive train is built up to last!

I would prefer just one turbo simply because it will feed the same pressure into both cylinders. Two is just over complicated. If that's for the bling then great but for actual performance there's not point. I do wonder why the stuck the intercoolers right where any half decent rider will grind them away.

The 1270 on the other hand makes lots of sense. You cant beat cubes. Why do it? Why not?

Its the same as my blather about DI two stokes. Why do that? Why not? The real question is why has someone not dropped a BRP Rotax snowmobile engine into a bike. 160bhp top end and tons of grunt where we need it from just 800cc. What's not to like?

I doubt the modification have been done because it makes sense... I like many things when it comes to bikes it's been done because someone fancied the idea of doing it and when it comes to bikes that's the only reason you need.

Trying to explain, justify or suggest how it should not have been done or done differently is a pointless quest

Well it's pointless if you're taking yourself to seriously but if it's just to have more banter about bikes it's fine...
