Anybody fitted a 18 tooth front sprocket to a F700/800. is there enough clearance around the cover, and is the standard chain long enough. is the nut right or lefthand thread, and what torque setting for nut. I actually have a 2014 f700gs.
any info appreciated.

I dont think that a 18T sprocket will fit, there is only just room to fit a 17T sprocket. Standard chain should be fine on 17T, the retaining bolt is normal leftie loosie rightie tightie. Sorry cant remember the torque.

On Sunday I changed from a 15t to a 17t on a 800GS (which has more power). With the 17t it now feels long legged and has lost some of the sharpness in the lower gears (I bet that is why they fitted a compromise 16t as standard).

I don't know if the 700 has different gearing/rear sprocket but 18t may be a tad long.

the F700 gs has a 17 tooth front sprocket as standard
the F800 has a 16 tooth.
the F700 is designed more for road use not off road. more low and mid range torque.
mine gets used around Europe mainly motorway work so slightly higher gearing would be better, I will change to road tyres when I wear out the noisy Michelin anikee's

Fair enough, you may need to look for a smaller (?) rear sprocket then to increase the gearing. I believe 3 teeth on the rear is the same as 1 tooth on the front.

2 to 3 teeth OFF the rear sprocket to get to about 1 tooth ON the gearbox sprocket

Bit late to the party on this one! I've got one from demon tweeks. It's a special order though, i think it took a week or so to arrive. It did require a little dremel action on the chain runner attached to the swingarm. I do a lot of motorway so suits me fine.

Best,

S
