Due to old age and various infirmities, I should sell my rareish and quick Rudge Ulster.
It’s a 500cc single with a bronze 4 valve head. Girder forks
I bought the bike at auction in 2016. But found that quite a lot of work was needed to make it useable.
Works include
Bottom half of the engine fully rebuilt with crank pin, bearings, oil pump and cam replaced.
New OEM piston fitted +60 thou overbore on cylinder.
Cylinder head refurbished, with new valves and bushes as required. Set up properly.
Gearbox refurbished and parts replaced as required. This work was carried out by Colin Chapple who is a UK Rudge expert.
The magneto and dynamo was refurbished by Peter de Kremer who is a trusted expert on prewar BTH electrics.
New Primary chain wheel and clutch plates, new chains and wheel bearings.
girder forks have been fitted with discrete modern hydraulic damper and the headstock fitted with taper roller bearings.
21” front and 19” rear stainless steel rim and spokes.
period Amal carb was resleeved by Joe the carb.
Linked brakes ( Rudge got there before Guzzi)

Bike is as new as a 1937 bike can be mechanically, paintwork has patina.
It will require fettling over the next 500 miles and will take 1000 to fully run in.

It was ridden today by my good friend Henry who said it was crisp and surprisingly quick.

It’s an interesting bike especially if you are thinking of a Classic
Offers on £12k which is a lot less than it cost me.

Better photos and video of the bike running can be supplied.4376EF7D-E087-44F5-861E-721E5F941DB3.jpegIMG_1219.jpegIMG_1141.jpegIMG_1140.jpeg

I have a slightly better condition outer primary chaincase cover which will be fitted this week, it will have the covers and may prove to be a bit more oiltight!

I still get a twinge in my loins (just) when I see a bronze head, probably one of the best bikes I’ve ever seen in the FS section..😍
