1979 R80 : is the oil pressure switch normally open or normally closed?

When engine was running after restoring , oil light ( Amber) stayed on and did not extinguish as it should.

I dropped oil , rejigged the oil filter and bought new sender - started engine and the amber light was extinguished when engine was running

- I thought I had solved the problem but when started after stood for a month the Amber light would not go out when engine running.

Does that make sense??

yes. i think your new sender is probably stuck.

my experience of many years with guzzi oil switches, which are the same part by the looks of it, is that new switches fail all the time. certainly had them fail from one winter lay up more than once. it's got to the stage that i find old switches robbed off scrap engines last much longer.

I'll try the wiring thing suggested by rob tomorrow - motobins are kindly and lovingly sending another sender out FOC - I'm sleeping better knowing that I'm getting pressure

These are pressures measured when initially running engines built in Sleaford by a well known Airhead expert (now retired) his thought was don't rev them too hard 'til they warm and settle.
