The picture below shows the old spring and hanger for the RS main stand I had on my bike when I bought it, albeit it was the wrong stand (earlier one I'm told).

The new spring is what I received with a kit I purchased from Motoworks.

Thanks to Rob I now have the correct stand but the spring & hanger set-up previously on the bike is too long.

Is the correct config for an 82 RS the long spring and no hanger.

Hi Rob, It certainly is thank you.

Fitted with the new motorworks long springs and bushes, the old stand had the hangers and short springs just like the parts catalogue (Real OEM).

You live and learn.

I had a problem with my spring and hangar on my R80g/s. Is it possible to take this hangar off without removing the engine? On my bike the engine cases seam to block its removal.

Same problem here Pete, thats why I asked the question first before diving in.

Had to slacken off front & rear engine bolts to allow the frame to release the engine slightly to remove the spacers at the rear. Engine will then be loose enough to move side to side with enough room to take the hangars off.

Changed the oil/filter and fitted a new lower crash bar bracket at the same time.
