1989 K1

Mate of mine bought one of these as his first bike not the best idea he ever had !

Test road one back in the day - way too cramped for me. Strangely enough was talking to a chap at the Matlock Classic meet who said he had a collection of 11 of them

There’s one over here . Looks pretty mint . If it ever comes up for sale ……

Yuk. No wonder the look never caught on. Sound bike if you can put up with the looks I suppose

Yet I think it looks fabulous and way ahead of its time.
We are all different . Some very different (not aimed at you 😘)
Agreed & I’ve always liked them.
About the same time Honda brought out the CBR1000F that had a wrap around fairing that covered just about everything. A guy at my work bought the Honda new & dropped it when he picked it up from the dealer on Fulham Road. Caused a shitload of damage to the plastics & clutch lever. So he had to wait a few months to get his new bike whilst spares came in from Japan.

Like above I bought a Honda Cbr1000f as I had previous cbr's, but really wanted a blue K1 before hand, although finances then did not allow that purchase.
If I still wanted an older bike again today, think I would still go for a Cbr1000f in blue white and gold as I had back in the day.
But I may be tempted for a swap with a nice K1 for my R1200Gs Adventure, Maybe!

P.S I dropt my cbr1000f in a petrol forecourt, forgot the side stand, whoops, cost £80 for a paint shop in Fife to fix offside side panel for me.
Another £120 to fix nearside side panel, as my pillion got off before I told him too. Kinda evened the pair up though.

A pal bought one back then. I saw one advertised recently and asked him if he'd fancy it! "Only after 6 months working out in the gym!" came the reply. Hefty beasts but Lovely looking!

They were a tad marmite back in the day, but the weird styling seems to have matured now, leaving them a more interesting proposition today.

I took a test ride at launch, but decided to stay with Honda & my super reliable CBR1000F, which I churned every 2/3 years. I had 4, 2 in RC30 colours by Dream Machine, but I went standard paint with the FP when my insurer expressed a dislike of custom paint. Then came the Blackbird & Hayabusa years, a far more exciting proposition.

I’ve grown to like them a lot although it would have to be a blue one. I’ve had a couple of K100RSs’ and currently have a K1100 but haven’t ridden a K1 - disappointed to hear that they are cramped although seems odd as I thought they were pretty much a K100 16 valve with a body kit.

Foot pegs were relatively high though I assume there are ways of lowering them.

I had 2, blue one first, nearly new, but had to sell it to finance a barn to convert, sold it to a guy who hadn’t even got a m/c licence and was disqualified anyway! (Delivered to his house) then bought a red ones few years later, sold.
